Gorillaz - The Fall

Gorillaz put out an online album on Christmas called THE FALL. I like this song the most. Follow the title link to stream the album.

Danger Mouse

Danger Mouse has a new project coming out titled Rome with an Italian composer named Daniele Luppi. I think it will be incredible. He brought in Jack White and Norah Jones for guest spots on the album. It is supposed to come out in 2011. There are some samples at this website: http://soundcloud.com/somekindofawesome/samples-of-danger-mouse-daniele-luppis-upcoming-project-rome *You can click on the title to get to the webpage or watch this video.

The Supremely Talented Tay Sean

This is a picture of Tay Sean with my one of my other favorite Seattle producers, P Smoov.

You should buy this album.

I love this song.

Shabba Ranks

Nicki Minaj

This song is a collaboration of M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj. I love hearing Nicki Minaj rapping over something that isn't Young Money. The rest of the song is good but her verse is the best.

Remembering Head Like An Espresso Truck

Breathe Owl Breathe

I got this from one of my favorite blogs Outforstardom.blogspot.com
You can check out a live performance of this song on their blog, click on the title of the blog for the link. This first song called "Swimming" is addicting.

This video has grown on me.

Extrahelladope

I don't love this song but I do love the video. Tay Sean has my favorite verse @ 1:51. Another Stephan Gray success.

Clutchy Hopkins

Whoa! This is really good. I can't believe I just found out about this...um, person. It's embarrassing. My guess is that it's DJ Shadow because he hasn't put out any new solo material since The Outsider in 2006. Click on the title of the blog entry to look at the Clutchy Hopkins wiki.

Broken Bells - The Ghost Inside

I do like the "Live at the Boat" version of this song better but the video is pretty awesome.

Ninjasonik

Ninjasonik is cool because their songs have good beats, they aren't gangsters (I'm not either), and when I saw them last summer at Nectar it looked like they were truly enjoying being there. Here is their new song.

Concerts at School!

Today was the Unity Fair at Seattle Central. Last year The Saturday Knights played and this year Macklemore and Helladope played, among others. These are some pictures of the cool people that were there.

I love Helladope, they will get their own post soon. They have such a great stage energy. Thanks to Geo and Macklemore for letting me take their picture. Those guys are cool.

Grynch

Dear Grynch, I'm sorry I didn't post this earlier. This video already has more views than Macklemore's "The Town". Good job Grynch! You are cool!

Cool Show!

Daru Jones

Funkier than you thought you could be.

Broken Bells

Late pass on this one. I love this song, I haven't heard the rest of the album yet,the library wait list is long.

Broken Bells - The High Road from Phunk Promotion on Vimeo.

Broken Bells is Danger Mouse and James Mercer from The Shins. My favorite Shins song is, wait, I don't have one. I appreciate Danger Mouse though and I like his work on this album.

Nicki Minaj

I can't help liking Nicki Minaj even though she hangs out with douchebags like Lil Wayne. In all of her collaborations with other artists that I have seen, she puts the other artists to shame. I know she can be ho-ish but she is f***ing cool. The first video I saw of her was this one with Mariah Carey. There are a bunch of parts of the video that suck ass but the parts with Nicki in it are worth watching. Added bonus: these chicks have real woman bodies, no one likes to see those too skinny chicks.

That last video inspires the question: Is playing with your gum outside of your mouth actually sexy? Then, I found this one.

Nicki Minaj- Itty Bitty Piggy from Cassandra DD. on Vimeo.

She reminds me of Lil Kim's Hardcore album.

She did a song with Ludacris called "My Chick Bad" but she is hardly in it at all so the song sucks. I hope she works with someone cool someday.

Massive Attack

I love this remix. There is a free download of this song on the Fader Magazine's website.

I heard the remix before I heard the regular song. I ended up liking the remix more but the original has a good video.

Truckasauras & Foscil

Much respect is due to the musical genius of these guys. They have been making music for a long time and have evolved into a vital part of the Seattle music scene, at least for me. I saw them last night as part of the Head Like An Espresso Truck show at Neumos, they ruled. I also saw them recently perform as Foscil (Truckasauras with more conventional instruments, I think) when they opened for DJ Krush, one of my all time favorites. Their album Tea Parties, Guns, and Valor was released in a way I think we could see more of in the future, the artwork for sale at Easy Street with a download code on the inside. It is a great idea. Props to them and congratulations for kicking so much ass. These dudes are cool. No blog post on My Definition of cool would be complete without a few videos.

90's Girl Groups

The 90's were my highly significant in the development of my musical tastes. I was between the ages of 12 and 22. I don't know where these chicks are now but their beats (or the beats someone made for them) live on.
En Vogue

En Vogue had so many classics but I recently rediscovered this one.
Jade

I don't remember if Jade had any other cool songs but when the beat kicks in at 0:37, it's on.

SWV

The chicks in SWV had some sweet nails, well maybe not sweet, they had crazy nails.
TLC

I still think TLC is cool. I saw them on the 2 Legit Tour with Hammer, Boyz II Men, and Jodeci. I still have my concert t-shirt. It was back when they were all the same size. Check it!
This was one of my favorite TLC songs.
Zhane

Zhane was cool, their two big songs sounded similar but they were both good.
Groove Theory

Groove Theory wasn't all chicks but still worthy.

DJ Premier

Dj Premier cannot be touched. SKILLZ!

Dark Time Sunshine

These guys know what they are doing.

New Edition

New Edition has done so much for us. Most notably for me was Bell Biv DeVoe.

They made the dance routine in the bedroom kind of music. Michael Bivens also brought us Another Bad Creation.

Without Another Bad Creation, we might have been denied the pleasure of seeing this video by The Boys called Dial My Heart.

Michael Bivens also brought us Boyz II Men.

Their career is definitely fizzling but they'll always have Motownphilly.
