1. Gloria Gaynor - "I Will Survive" 1978  Watching this video (and early Beatles/Rolling Stones videos) inspired me to Google the history of music videos pre-MTV. According to The History Channel, the first music video was made in 1895 by Thomas Edison and his crew.




2. Chet Faker - "Gold" 2014 This video inspired me to buy $5 Goodwill roller skates that I'm afraid to use until I get health insurance. "Gold" is one of my favorite songs...ever.




3. Domo Genesis feat Anderson.Paak - "Dapper" 2016  Anderson.Paak has been one of my favorite artists since "Suede." Malibu was an instant timeless classic. Loved watching Dre react to hearing the music in the studio in the promo videos released to support the album.




4. De La Soul ft. Q-Tip and Vinia Mojica - "A Roller Skating Jam Named "Saturdays"" 1991 This video made me realize that I've been doing Saturdays all wrong. Shoutout to Prince Paul (producer of this song etc.) for helping to create so many of my favorite moments in music.

5. Ciara feat. Missy Elliott - "1, 2 Step" 2004  The roller skates don't arrive until the end of the video but Ciara and Missy are fierce the whole way through.




6. Perfume Genius - "Fool" 2014  I love that Perfume Genius is showing us the emo side of roller skating; not an easy feat because it usually promotes joy with moment of terror.




7. Le Couleur - "Femme" 2013  I've just added roller skating near the Eiffel Tower to my bucket list; I didn't have one before. I'll be wearing pants though.




8. Jungle - "Heat" 2013  Roller skate dancing at its finest.




9. Beyoncé - "Blow" 2014  The vibe in the room at a Beyonce roller skating party would be stellar.




10. Luscious Jackson - "Here" 1995  This video gets the award for Best Use Of Disco Balls.




11. Thunderpussy - "Welcome To The Disco" 2015  SEATTLE MUSIC  Thunderpussy is currently in position to take over the world...and I'll give them the award for Best Use Of Fred Wildlife Refuge.

3. Model 500 - "The Flow" 1995  *I originally fell in love with Juan Atkins Remix version of the I found on the Everything But The Girl Edition of the Back To Mine Series (2001).




4. Q-Tip feat. Norah Jones - "Life Is Better" 2008  *Norah Jones pairs well with Hip Hop.




5. Cut Chemist feat. Chali 2na and Hymnal - "Turn It Around" 2013  *I hope this mean there will be a Cut Chemist tour.




6. L'Orange - "The Epilogue" 2011  *L'Orange is the new hotness, even though he's been around for awhile.




7. 14KT feat. Tiffany Page - "The Inside" 2013  *14KT has a Super Snap, you'll see.



8. Kool and Kass - "Arrested Development" 2013  *They are just so likeable.




9. The Flight - "Dark Corners" 2013  *I would love to hear the instrumental version.




10. DJ Krush feat. CL Smooth - "Only The Strong Survive" 1995  *This song is still way awesome.

1. The Beatles - "Hey Jude" 1968  *As one should expect, this is an extremely great song.

2. Dirty Dike - "Ten Dike Commandments" 2013 (UK HIP HOP)  *Dirty Dike oozes personality and seems like I could never party hard enough to hang out with him. This beat is amazing, his delivery is captivating, and the video is hilarious.

3. Klymaxx - "Meeting In The Ladies Room" 1985  *This is one of the best eighties videos I have ever seen. They even have a mermaid.

4. MORE1 - "On A Mission" 2011 (UK HIP HOP) *I love this beat, I kind of wish it was an instrumental.

5. The Police - "Roxanne" 1978  *My parents loved this band, and I can now appreciate their greatness.

6. Illa J feat. Debi Nova - "Sounds Like Love" 2008  *The Yanceys are a talented family (Captain Obvious strikes again).

7. Datkid - "Home By 8" 2012 (UK HIP HOP)  *I've watched this like 6 times and still can't figure out why I might like it. He has a thuggy UK rapper thing going. He isn't my new favorite rapper but I keep watching what he is doing anyway.

8. Slum Village - "Reppin'" 2012  *New era Slum Village, worth a listen.

9. Wham! - "Everything She Wants" 1984  *I think that this and their Christmas song are the best Wham songs.

10. Q-Tip - "Breathe And Stop" 1999  *Q-Tip is awesome.

1. Illa J - "All Good" 2008  *This is my new theme song. Illa J is J Dilla's brother. I even like the lyrics to this song which can be hard to come by in Hip Hop,

2. J Dilla feat. Illa J - "Won't Do" 2006  *This video is already in the moving clouds or fog category but no Dilla list would be complete without this song.

3. Jaylib - "The Red" 2003 *Jaylib is J Dilla and Madlib.

4. Slum Village - "Fall In Love" (Jay Dee Remix) 2000  *This is a ridiculously great song.

5. J Dilla - "Featuring Phat Kat" 2001  *This is one of those beats that you can't believe how great it is even when you are listening to it.

6. Spacek - "Eve" (Jay Dee Remix ft. Frank-n-Dank) 2000  *This song is whoa.

7. J Dilla - "Make'em NV" 2003  *Beat nasty face.

 

8. Jaylib feat. Talib Kweli - "Raw Shit" 2003  *They were a great team.

9. Heavy D feat. Q-Tip - "Listen" 1999  *Produced by J Dilla. YouTube credits are wrong and yet, the song is so right.

10. DJ Cam feat. Cameo - "Love Junkee" (J Dilla Remix) 2004  *Dj Cam and J Dilla in one song, one of those great moments in music.

1. Sade - "Kiss Of Life" 1993  *Sade is now 54 years old, she should write a manual about how to age well. Maybe the key is taking the time to listen to smooth, relaxing music like hers.

2. Survivor - "Eye Of The Tiger" 1982  *Solid guy jam.

*It's hard for me not to sing the lyrics to this commercial when listening to this song.

3. Oingo Boingo - "Weird Science" 1985  *The Weird Science movie is cool too.

4. The Bangles - "Manic Monday" 1986  *Some of these clocks are floating.

5. Janet Jackson feat. Q-Tip and Joni Mitchell - "Got Til It's Gone" 1997  *This video also has a weird rodent looking animal around 0:20. I am definitely on Team Janet.

6. Fleetwood Mac - "Everywhere" 1987  *This music video is a period piece, it is from a time when horses delivered messages.

7. The Cure - "Lullaby" 1989  *Maybe he should get out of bed and go outside or something. I love this band, song, and video but really, he has been in bed so long that he is covered in spiderwebs.

 

 

8. The Chemical Brothers - "Let Forever Be" 1999  *This video has stellar special effects.

 

 

 

9. Grayskul feat. Andrea Zollo - "Missing" 2008  *They did a great job on this video. I like that the Suzzallo Library at UW is included @ 2:34.

 

 

 

10. The Roots - "Proceed" 1994  *This video also contains water, sped up city scenes, street signs, rappers walking down the middle of the street, and a look at what Jimmy Fallon's band looked like almost twenty years ago.

1. Midnight Star - "Midas Touch" 1986  *Everything gets painted gold in this video, that's pretty shiny.

2. Bahamadia - "Uknowhowwedu" 1995  *Bahamadia is definitely cool.

3. Busta Rhymes - "Dangerous" 1997  *Busta Rhymes was really shiny (and often yellow) in the nineties.

4. Georgia Anne Muldrow - "Kneecap Jelly" 2013  *I know this is cool because it is produced by Madlib and she is definitely awesome.

5. Janet Jackson - "What Have You Done For Me Lately" 1986  *You can't get much cooler than Janet in 1986.

6. Earth, Wind, And Fire - "Boogie Wonderland" 1979  *Naturally, the Boogie Wonderland would have to be shiny.

7. Salt 'N Pepa - "None Of Your Business" 1993  *The whole Blacks' Magic album was great.

8. Jurassic 5 - "What's Golden" 2002  *It's raining shiny gold records.

9. Q-Tip - "Vivrant Thing" 1999  *Q-Tip's solo project produced in party by J Dilla had two great songs for me, this one and "N.T.".

10. Vanity 6 - "Nasty Girl" 1982  *This band was created by Prince in 1981. It's all very in-your-face sexy, not unlike modern day female stars like Nicki Minaj.
