1. Flume f. Ghostface Killah and Autre Ne Veut - "Space Cadet" 2014  Yes dude, Ghostface Killah cartoon. The song is just aight though, even with the interesting artist trio.




2. Atoms For Peace - "Default" 2012  I'll try to draw this on graph paper and get back to you.




3. Dudley Perkins (AKA Declaime) - "Lung Specialist" 2014  This video has Rotating Heads, I love that shit. Ten more rotating heads coming soon.




4. The MC Type - "Murder Mystery" 2013 (SEATTLE MUSIC) Type's "My Girlfriend Beats Me" with Grieves appears on Ten Music Videos featuring Seattle from March 2013. Animation by Graves 33.




5. Captain Murphy - "Cosplay" 2014  Flying Lotus will likely be performing some Captain Murphy songs at his show at The Neptune Theater on November 18 with Thundercat. His "Birth Of Captain Murphy" video recently appeared on Ten Great Non-Music Videos.




6. Bishop Nehru - "You Stressin'" 2014 (Produced by Disclosure)  Bishop Nehru has worked with all of your favorite producers and he's only 19!




7. Radiohead - "2+2=5" 2003  This is one of my favorite tracks from Hail To The Thief. I do love "There, There" more.




8. Pete Cannon + Dr Syntax feat. Jehst + Del The Funky Homosapien - "Do What We Wanna Do" 2014  Let's bring Jehst to Seattle, then we can build a UK/Seattle bridge.




9. Raz Simone - "Bow Down" 2014  (SEATTLE MUSIC)  This is pretty pro-style for a Seattle artist. I think he's making some great moves with his promotion, but I don't listen to his breathy raps for fun; yet.




10. FKA Twigs - "How's That" 2013  She certainly has wow factor, doesn't she.

1. Cris Prolific feat. Phat Kat - "To My Man J Dilla" 2011  *Another ode to Dilla.



You may remember Phat Kat from this song; I know I do.




2. Lil Kim feat. Lil Cease and The Notorious B.I.G. - "Crush On You" 1997  *In this video, we're talking about dance steps. Hardcore was definitely the best Lil Kim album.




3. Pusha T feat. Kendrick Lamar - "Nosetalgia" 2013  *Somebody should count how many steps they take, I'm not gonna do it, but, someone should. Kendrick has the smoothest and most nonchalant entrance ever. Still not a big Pusha T fan.




4. RJD2 - "Her Majesty's Socialist Request" 2013  *Whoa. This video is intense.




5. Step Brothers - "Step Masters" 2013  *I really hope there is a Step Brothers tour. I want to get them to sign this poster.

Alchemist and Evidence are f**king awesome. They both win.

1. Kendra Morris - "Concrete Waves" (DJ Premier 320 Remix) 2011   *This is one of those songs that I knew I loved the first time I heard it.

2. Del Tha Funkee Homosapien - "Catch A Bad One" 1993  *This is off of the No Need For Alarm album.

3. INXS - "Need You Tonight" 1987  *Michael Hutchence showed us that rodents can be fashion accessories and friends.

4. Radiohead - "There, There" 2003  *The rodents in this video get the award for Most Civilized Rodents, mostly because of their outfits.

5. Steve Miller Band - "Abracadabra" 1982  *This video has rad 80's special effects, rodents, fire juggling, masks, birds, and a bunch of magic tricks.

6. Head Like A Kite - "We're Always On The Wrong Side Of Sunrise" 2010 (SEATTLE MUSIC)  *This video could have also been on Ten Music Videos featuring Rotating Heads.

7. De La Soul - "Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey)" 1991  *When the rat uses the phone, it reminds me of that scary Secrets of Nimh movie.

8. Joey Bada$$ feat. Big K.R.I.T. and Smoke DZA - "Underground Airplay" 2013  *That's so cute they filmed their "Underground Airplay" video underground.

9. The Roots feat. Musiq - "Break You Off" 2002  * When this song started I immediately thought of this... "Hip-Hop smoothed out on an RandB tip with a Pop feel appeal to it." (Bell Biv DeVoe)

10. Azealia Banks - "212" 2011  *This song is still awesome.

Hieroglyphics: Then and Now

It amazes me that I was able to discover Hieroglyphics at such an early age. I got Del the Funky Homosapien's No Need For Alarm cassette from BMG Music Service when I was fourteen years old (1993). I'm sure I must have found them through BET because the internet had not yet become a thing.

This was a pretty great album, but, my favorite Hieroglyphics songs are:

Souls Of Mischief - "93 Til Infinity" 1993

Hieroglyphics - "You Never Knew" 1998

My favorite Hiero memory is when I saw Souls Of Mischief with my friend Celia circa 2000 at Tahoe Taps in Truckee, CA. Every city has its own type of Hip Hop crowd, Tahoe shows have an everybody's either on vacation or need to party because I work in the service industry kind of feel.

The Hieroglyphics crew has continued to make music since the nineties and have just released a new video for "It's Partly Me" off of their new album The Kitchen. The video itself is not available for Blogger but can be found here on YouTube.

 

They definitely went for it, but, it is lacking something that could have made it great. As bands like the Rolling Stones and U2 have shown us, the urge to continue making music is probably overwhelming; especially if it was the one thing that made them feel complete and successful. I urge everyone to pursue the thing that makes them feel whole, even if I don't like listening to it. While I have loved a few Hiero songs, in my opinion, they've never been great as a collective. That said, I will continue going to Hieroglyphics shows and listening to their music because that is how I roll.

Dan The Automator

I kind of freaked out in the best way when I noticed this Dan the Automator beer. It even says Deltron 3030 on the side.

I was also pleased to see that a new Deltron 3030 (Del The Funky Homosapien, Kid Koala, Dan The Automator) song has been released from the upcoming sequel called Event II.

Ten Music Videos With Space Suits Or Haz-Mat Suits

1. Lootpack - "Whenimondamic" 1999  Madlib, Wildchild, and DJ Romes are/were the members of Lootpack. I love that they are wearing space suits in a desert that looks like Joshua Tree. This album is awesome.

2. Dark Time Sunshine - "Sleestack Payback and All Aboard" 2010  This is the video that made me want to start this category. Zavala and Onry make a great team.




3. Daft Punk - "Around The World" 1997  Of course Daft Punk has to be on this list. I haven't liked much of their music since their first album Homework but millions of others have.




4. The Postal Service - "Such Great Heights" 2003  I first heard this song in a snowboard movie called Lame. I don't like much other Postal Service music but this song is great.




5. Common feat. Lily Allen - "Drivin' Me Wild" 2007  Common pairs nicely with almost any female artist. Lily Allen is cool.




6. Eric B and Rakim - "I Know You Got Soul" 1987  This song samples the Jackson 5 (among others) and the video uses a bunch of old footage including real astronauts in space suits.




7. Jin - "Shoot For The Moon" 2011  I really dislike this song but I shoot for the moon myself so I can relate to this dude. Jin's song "Top 5 Dead Or Alive" is my shit though; it's on a list of videos filmed in record stores.




8. Salt 'N Pepa - "Ain't Nuthin' But A She Thing" 1995  These ladies are definitely cool.



9. Hopie feat. Del The Funky Homosapien - "Space Case" 2011  This video is definitely worth watching, if only to see Del working with a female artist. The video also contains pajamas and floating stuff.




10. Strange U - "Klaatu Barada Nikto" 2013  (UK HIP HOP)  This is the alter ego/next level of Kashmere the Iguana Man, who I found by listening to other UK Hip Hop on Spotify. I still like "Permission To Board" (click on Kashmere the Iguana Man on right side) more but it is cool that he is progressing and changing his style, because why not. That reminds me of a facebook quote about how life is like riding a bicycle; if you're not moving forward you fall over.

Ten Music Videos featuring American Flags

1. Joey Bada$$ and Capital STEEZ - "Survival Tactics" 2012  *I love that these young'ins are using their music as social commentary and not just inspiring kids to do drugs. They are cool. Capital STEEZ will live on through the music he made while he was alive and through the rest of Pro Era.

2. OutKast - "Roses" 2003  *This video is ten years old...crazy. The moral of the story is that chicks don't like guys who fight, they would rather go home with their gay guy friends.

3. De La Soul - "Me, Myself, and I" 1989  *Warning, this video contains simulated death by vinyl. Overall, this is a very upbeat and positive video so don't be scared.

4. STRFKR - "Atlantis" 2013  *The main idea of this video is that you see a lot of crazy shit when you go jogging in L.A..

5. Ginuwine - "Pony" 1996  *It is hilarious that this video takes place in a cowboy bar.

The actual video has recently been unofficially replaced by this video of questionable quality.

6. Blu - "Doin' Nothin'" 2011  *My brain tells me that this is an interesting song, my ear tells me to listen to something else.

7. Del The Funky Homosapien - "Mistadobalina" 1991  *This flag is Where's Waldo style.

8. Pearl Jam - "Jeremy" 1991  *Pearl Jam was definitely cool in 1991.

9. Joey Bada$$ - "Unorthodox" 2013  *This guy is 18 years old and his song is produced by DJ Premier. You can't get much cooler than that.

10. Symmetry - "Streets Of Fire" Song 2011/Video 2013  *This is a portion of a full length music movie by Alastair Uhlig with music by Johnny Jewel (of Chromatics, Glass Candy, and Desire).
