Seven Music Videos featuring Slow Motion Scenes

1. DJ Cam - "Swim" 2011  *This video is entirely in slow motion. It is not my favorite DJ Cam song, but, he is still great.

2. Blackalicious - "Make You Feel That Way" 2002  *It is a go-to happy Hip Hop song. Plus, it is on the Brown Sugar Soundtrack which is full of gems.

3. Amy Winehouse - "Love Is A Losing Game" 2006  *I'm glad she left us with so many great songs to remember her by.

4. Flume - "More Than You Thought" 2013  *When I listened to this song, I found myself wondering if I was accidentally listening to dubstep. I hope not, because I have noticed that some of the most ridiculous people I have ever met, love dubstep. I felt that this song would be great when played on an incredibly loud soundsystem, which is why I posted it. I found this on the Pigeons and Planes website.

5. New Order - "Bizarre Love Triangle" 1986  *Trampolines and slo-mo.

6. Chance The Rapper feat. Ab-Soul - "Smoke Again" 2013  *He is the new hotness in the blog scene, it has been determined that he will go big (by Pigeons and Planes and music writers on Twitter). I won't be able to decide if I like him until I listen to his mixtape Acid Rain which can be downloaded at his website here. He does have an interesting flow and doesn't sound like one of those yelling, crazy, beats without soul rappers. I know a lot of people will love him.

7. Lin Que feat. MC Lyte - "Let It Fall" 1995  *I have no recollection of Lin Que at all. This song isn't really that good, but, I like seeing how the ladies do their thing.

Ten Music Videos featuring Instrument Close-Ups

*You might find yourself wondering, why the hell would I want to watch ten music videos with instrument close-ups? Really these lists are just a way to put good music in a playlist (of sorts) without having to label them with a genre. It's all just good music, at least I think so.

1. Chromatics - "Cherry" 2012  *Chromatics are good, you should probably listen to them.

2. The Police - "Every Breath You Take" 1983  *I don't think I really appreciated The Police when my mom listened to them when I was a kid. I get it now.

3. Pretty Lights feat. Talib Kweli - "Around The Block" 2013  *I feel like a lot of people might really like this song. I think it's too in your face (or ear), like he wanted to try to create a big sound. I'm not sure what that really means, but, I do know that I'm not that into this song.

4. Gang Starr - "Jazz Thing" 1990  *From the Mo' Better Blues Soundtrack

5. Apollo Brown - "Time Passed Autumn" 2011  *For me this song/video is all about seeing the Phil Collins album in a frame. I prefer his "Tao Te Ching" song. This video is the weakest link of the ten, but, there is tough competition.

6. The Smiths - "This Charming Man" 1983  *The Smiths hang out in a dirty room and Morissey swings something around.

7. Player - "Baby Come Back" 1977  *Smoothed out jams on the classic rock tip.

8. New Order - "The Perfect Kiss" 1985  *It's always good to fit New Order videos in wherever possible. This video also has a cowbell.

9. Common - "Resurrection" 1995  *This is a great album.

10. Moby - "Porcelain" 2000  *There is a close-up of a piano keyboard, but, the video is one long close-up of someone's eye and presumably the stuff that they are seeing.

1. Flying Lotus - "Until The Quiet Comes" 2012  * At 2:03 the song gets amazing, Flying Lotus and the filmmaker Kahlil Joseph are geniuses.




2. RUN-DMC - "It's Tricky" 1986  *They have a RUN-DMC helicopter; ballin.




3. Cold War Kids - "Hang Me Up To Dry" 2007  *This is one of the three Cold War Kids songs that I like.




4. Nelly Furtado - "Say It Right" 2006  *Sometimes, I need to remind myself that it is okay to like pop songs. She has her name on the helicopter and on the landing pad, straight ballin'.




5. 2Pac and Dr. Dre - "California Love" 1995  *2Pac and Dre get all Mad Max in this video.




6. Sade - "Cherish The Day" 1992  *When Sade is on a rooftop, it is easier to see her superpowers. She doesn't age, is always relaxed, makes great music, and she isn't afraid of heights.




7. The Fugees - "Ready Or Not" 1996  *This video is a mega-production.




8. New Order - "Blue Monday" 1983  *This song was covered by so many bands because it is fabulous.



9. Quelle Chris feat. Tanya Morgan, Fresh Daily, and Cavalier - "Greene Eyes" 2013  *The upside-down singing is a classic, but, isn't normally in music videos. This song is just alright, I think it would be better if the instrumental was more than just loops. The variations in the beat that do appear are the most interesting part of the song. At just under five minutes, the song feels too long because it gets boring. I feel like this guy is onto something and that he will get there soon.



10. Dr. Octagon - "Trees" 2006  *Kool Keith is on board to help us save the trees with his public service announcement music video.

1. Yancey Boys feat. Frank Nitt (Produced By J Dilla) - "The Throwaway" 2012  *We sell this cheese at my work called Yancey's Fancy and no one I work with gets it.

This song is made with unreleased J Dilla (James Yancey) beats.



2. Verb T - "Where You Find Me" 2012  (UK HIP HOP)  *I love this beat; the bass is great and it has soul. I really don't know how to talk about beats, I just know if I like it.


3. New Order - "Temptation" 1982  *I'm pretty sure this is not the original video because the clothes and the cars look too modern. Of course, New Order is great.


4. J Rocc - "Stay Fresh" 2011  *Mayer Hawthorne filmed this while he, J Rocc, and Peanut Butter Wolf were on tour in Japan (or so the YouTube credit says).


5. Lootpack (Madlib) - "Crate Diggin'" 1999  *Oh man, I love this.


6. Jin - "Top 5 Dead Or Alive" 2005  *This is the only Jin song that I really like. It is hard to pick a top 5 emcees because it is hard to know how to judge. Is it personal preference, content of lyrics, or skill level? I always like Mos Def, Method Man, and Q-Tip. The rest of my top 5 is always changing by what I am overplaying at the time.


7. Primal Scream - "It's Alright, It's OK" 2013  *This is what a new Primal Scream song should sound like (as messed up as that sounds). I always loved their "Movin' On Up" song from 1991.


8. The Roots - "Silent Treatment" 1995  *Another solid Roots track.


9. The Foreign Exchange - "I Wanna Know" 2009  *This song by Phonte and Nicolay is way more R and B than I expected. It's aight.


10. Erykah Badu - "Honey" 2008  *This video has the best use of a record store.

1. Joey Bada$$ feat. CJ Fly - "Hardknock" 2012  *They get all up in the street signs.

2. Nas - "Made You Look" 2002  *This song is from the God's Son album, which is my favorite Nas album.

3. LL Cool J feat. Boyz II Men - "Hey Lover" 1995  *Classic mid-nineties Hip Hop and R and B combo.

4. The Beatles - "Penny Lane" 1967  *British street signs are so much classier than American street signs. In this video, The Beatles ride horses wherever they want.

5. Cat Power - "Manhattan" 2013  *Something deep inside me tells me that this is not cool, yet, I like it anyway.

6. Anthony Hamilton - "Comin' From Where I'm From" 2003  *I never really had an Anthony Hamilton phase, but, this song has always stood out as quality.

7. Midnight Star - "Operator" 1984  *Every phone in this video has a cord, even the giant phone.

8. Uptown XO - "Spread Love" 2013  *This song is just okay, it feels like it is missing something. Maybe the beat needs one more level or maybe it is perfect for someone else. It doesn't suck bad enough for me to leave it off the blog though.

9. MC Lyte - "Brooklyn" 2008  *The first 33 seconds of this video is actually Flying Lotus' "Tea Leaf Dancers" which is much better than the "Brooklyn" song. MC Lyte goes for the Jamaican (or some other) accent in this unfortunately weak comeback tune.

10. New Order - "Regret" 1993  *There are many other things going on in this video besides street signs and it all happens so quickly.
