10 Animated Music Videos Part VI

My Animated Music Videos YouTube playlist is up to 78 videos and counting...

1. Jay-Z - "The Story Of OJ" 2017  I can't mention this Jay-Z album without mentioning that Grape God did it first. That said, this song/video is awesome.

2. Sevdaliza - "That Other Girl" 2015  Sevdaliza stays weird in the very best way.

3. Chelou - "Halfway To Nowhere" 2016  Still can't decide if I love this song but since I've watched the video at least five times, it must be aight.

4. theMIND Feat. Mick Jenkins, Noname, Jesse Boykins III - "Animated Ambition" 2016  Noname for the win...

5. Mndsgn - "Alluptoyou" 2016  It's nearly impossible to be smoother than this.

6. King Reign - "Santa Romeo" 2017  This video was released posthumously by those who wanted to see this track get the love it deserves.

7. Jonwayne - "LIVE From The Fuck You" 2017  STONES THROW  Leave him alone, he's with his boys!

8. Dabbla feat. Graziella - "Psychoville" 2016  UK HIP HOP  "Thanks for being here. Theres lots of cool shit to see and free music to download and share so enjoy yourself, have a gander, buy some shit and help me continue to make music until it transmorph's into an actual job enabling me to escape the social grid and become a revolutionary pillar of the global community."
- Excerpt from Dabbla's Soundcloud bio

9. Gorillaz - "Sleeping Powder" 2017  The Gorillaz team is trying harder than most musicians out there and it's totally working.

Here's the Gorillaz episode of MTV Cribs for good measure.

10. Nick Hakim - "Roller Skates" 2017  This has also been added to the Roller Skating Music Videos YouTube playlist for obvious reasons.

Ten Music Videos With Special Effects Part VI

All 60 Music Videos With Special Effects are on a YouTube playlist ready to be YouTubeN'Chilled.

1. Nao - "Fool To Love" 2016  I first discovered now via "So Good" with A.K. Paul last year and I overplayed the shit out of that song too. Nao is doing it right. This latest instantly infectious track from the East London artist has helped me to work on my car dancing over the last few days. Thanks Nao!

2. Flying Lotus - "Phantasm" 2012  I just learned from FlyLo's impressive Wikipedia page that he is an ex Stones Throw intern which has always sounded like an amazing idea to me. My Brainfeeder shirt is one of my favorites because it actually fits AND because I truly appreciate the efforts Flying Lotus has put into his label.

Flying Lotus (feat. Laura Darlington) - Phantasm from The Bow on Vimeo.

Plus, how cool is this press photo.

3. Vivians (Mndsgn + Koreatown Oddity) - "The Shaw (In The 90's)" 2015  I'm a sucker for all the 90s nostalgia videos and this one is no exception. Watch "Flip And Rewind" by Rashida Jones for another example. Mndsgn of Vivians was affiliated with Stones Throw but is now on Akashik Records, I fux with them.

4. Mick Jenkins - "P's + Q's" 2015  This is reminiscent of the Spike Jonze video for "Drop" in the best way. I do prefer "Drop" over this track but the visuals could not be better. I was seeking out a "Making The Video" type thing but found this instead. Mick Jenkins has been killin it since before I first got hip around "The Roots" in 2013.

5. ABRA - "Fruit" 2015  I'm not a huge Awful Records fan but this is fire. I've been overplaying this song since I first discovered it...too late, just a few days ago. Fortunately, it's never too late for a new favorite song.

6. bryson, the alien - "2heavy" 2016  PORTLAND MUSIC  There's so much good music in Portland, it's always worth a road trip. This was likely a pretty low-budget video (this is a rad thing) but the special effects take it to the next level. Here's his Twitter; follow him so you can see what he does next.

7. Aesop Rock - "Rings" 2016  Aesop Rock has had his game stepped up for decades. Click here to see how many YouTube videos it takes to launch an album Rhymesayers style (AKA the right way). This video is amazing and so are the efforts of Aesop Rock. You should probably buy his new album The Impossible Kid.

Here's a picture of me and him taken just after his recent show in Bellingham before I realized that I gave him poor service as a fill-in promoter rep because I was too nervous to be myself. My mom saw this photo and thought he must be my new tall and handsome boyfriend because I look so happy in this photo; I was very sad to disappoint her.

8. Massive Attack feat. Young Fathers - "Voodoo In My Blood" 2016  With all the SIFF heads in town, you'd think we'd have more videos from local artists like this. Hmmm....scheming. My sister Ingrid would say this is a "problem song."

9. Oshun feat. Proda - "Protect Your Self" 2016  Found these ladies via Team Backpack and have been watching out for them ever since. This video got them on NPR's radar, if they weren't already. Hope to see them in Seattle soon!

10. Ripley Snell feat. Grape God - "Timeless" 2013 (Prod. by Neill Von Tally) PORTLAND MUSIC  Theses two are some of the most unique and interesting people I've ever met. I recently booked a show in Portland for Grape God and Ripley Snell as Wine + Coffee, DoNormaal, OCnotes (w/ Rik Rude + Astro King Phoenix), Raven Matthews, and Snugsworth at The Know. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Fortunately, these cats are time travelers so we'll be able to relive the evening.

From upper left to right (Ripley Snell, OCnotes, Rik Rude, Skelli Skel) Bottom left to right (Northern Draw + Grape God)
Sadly not pictured below because I was too busy living in the moment for once are DoNormaal, Raven Matthews, Astro King Phoenix, and Snugsworth.

The first five lists of Special Effects videos can be reached via the links below.

Feb 7, 2013  This list is from when I was still too shy to use my voice but the songs are great!

May 22, 2013  Part 2 includes En Vogue's Sesame Street video "Adventure." Straight fire.

November 20, 2013  I had finally learned about HTML from my former ReignCity team and could finally use YouTube properly in Part 3.

August 27, 2014  My favorite self-quote from Part 4 is "I wonder if this is what it feels like to be Thom Yorke."

January 20, 2015  In which I use a Beavis & Butthead meme that says "Yes! Tool!" Part 5

Ten Music Videos With People Suspended In Mid-Air

1. Flying Lotus - "Ready Err Not" 2014  This one took me back to the video for Tool's "Sober" which appeared on Ten Music Videos Featuring Clay Or Puppets. Flying Lotus has obviously tapped into his superpower.

2. Kendrick Lamar - "Alright" 2015  This Kendrick and Obama photo is one of the best things I've ever seen.

3. Hawk House - "Chill Pill (Experiment 2)" 2014  I can't wait to feel the vibe of the UK Hip Hop Scene firsthand. I'm still trying to build this music bridge.

4. The Roots feat. Patty Crash "Never" 2014  This intro is kinda rough but mad props to The Roots for being consistently rad for 2+ decades.

5. Mndsgn - "Sheets" 2014  Another Stones Throw gem.

6. Erasure - "Chains Of Love" 1988  This song still goes.

7. Shabazz Palaces - "#CAKE" 2014  Cake is bomb.

8. Tyler, The Creator - "Fucking Young" 2015  It's amazing what he's accomplished by the age of 24.

9. JMSN - "Addicted" 2015  Excellent green screen action.

10. Breakbot - "2GOOD4ME" 2016  This video rules. More info on Breakbot can be found on this rad French record label's website.

Ten More Music Videos with Food

The full collection of Food Music Videos is ready for #YouTubeNchill 'n.

1. Superior - "My Whole World" 2015  Finding this song reminded me that spending hours on the internet looking for music is exactly the shit I love most. Superior has been making music since the 90s and is currently on the Dezi Belle label out of Berlin, Germany. Props to the kids in the video for their entrepreneurial spirit, they are going to take over the world.

2. Run The Jewels - "Blockbuster Night Part 1" 2014  El-P and Killer Mike are way better rappers than EMTs. Self promotion is also one of their great skills.

3. Freddie Gibbs + Madlib - "Harolds" 2014  I love Madlib's instrumentals. When the guns, violence, and bitches are optional, I'll always go without.

4. Mndsgn - "Frugality, Zen, + Homewards" 2014  A truly weird (AKA great) video from Stones Throw artist Mndsgn. He'll be at Barboza on Sunday, February 22.

5. Jamil Suleman + Spekulation - "Curry N'A Hour" 2015  Jamil Suleman teamed up with the Internet Buzz Master Spekulation for his song about the realest of real...making dinner. He'll be performing at the March Home Slice at The Crocodile Back Bar. Home Slice is a monthly showcase of local Hip Hop that I curate with Andrew Savoie of Nu Era.

Proud to say that Jamil was one of the teachers of my UW Hip Hop Class in Spring 2012 along with Third Andresen PhD and John Eklof. That was the class that made me realize what I should really be doing with my life. In the class we made an EP, a blog, and had an Album Release Party. Here's a link to a video filmed at the show. We made a bunch of music videos, here's the link to our YouTube page. This was the video that truly captured the experience You can play Where's Waldo for me in the video if you know what I look like.

6. Bocafloja - "Aire" 2013  It seems like this rapper from Mexico City knows what's up. He's spreading positive messages with his music, I love that shit.

7. Doomtree - "Final Boss" 2015  I assure you that no Doomtree members were harmed in the making of this video. They are in fine shape and looking forward to the Seattle stop of their All Hands Tour. My ReignCity team is hosting their March 9 show at Neumos with Hellfyre Club and Transit.

8. INXS - "Beautiful Girl" 1993  One of those 90s jams that never gets old to me. INXS had the cuts.

9. Keyboard Kid - "BasedExorcism" 2012 (SEATTLE MUSIC)  I love that he made a Twin Peaks inspired video. There's a handful of corn @ 2:16.

10. The Fat Boys - "All You Can Eat" 1985  From the epic 80s movie, Krush Groove. A must watch for any Hip Hop fan.

Here's the link to the original Ten Music Videos Featuring Food from January 2013. It has They Live, Illa J, Beach House, Mayer Hawthorne, Glass Candy, De La Soul, and more....

Ten Music Videos with Product Placement

1. DJ Shadow + Cut Chemist - "Product Placement" 2001  *These two the kings of Product Placement. Like their Brainfreeze album, Product Placement is a mix of all 45s, this one is made up of old commercials and jingles.

2. Zuke Saga x J'Von - "Meltdpzza" 2014 (SEATTLE MUSIC) These guys amaze me and not just because they burned McDonald's products in their video.

3. The Rolling Stones - "Waiting On A Friend" 1981  I love that this video exists, there's a Miller Lite in it...and some tight white pants. This is from an era when they were still cool.

4. Got A Girl - "Did We Live Too Fast" 2014  This video from the Dan The Automator side project, Got A Girl, has ads for third eye surgery. It's perfectly weird, kind of reminds me (in the best way) of his album with Lovage, Music To Make Love To Your Old Lady By.

5. OCnotes - "Fish + Chips" 2014 (SEATTLE MUSIC) OCnotes with the Proctor Silex Toaster, the Mystery Coke machine, Pike Place Market, and a magic microwave.

6. Prof - "Gampo" 2012  In this video for my favorite Prof song, he pays tribute to Jameson and PBR. There's also a miniature giraffe and some chocolates.

7. Def Dee - "C'mon Now" 2014 (SEATTLE MUSIC)  This video is like a commercial for Seattle and it has a Coca Cola machine at the beginning.

8. SZA - "Julia/(Tender)" 2014  Wishing that SZA hadn't played in Seattle the same night as Mos Def and DJ Shadow + Cut Chemist. I made a great choice with Shadow and Cut Chemist's Renegades Of Rhythm Tour but I would have loved to have seen SZA. Due to the Beats headphones in the sand, this may actually be a really good commercial.

10. Quasimoto - "Catchin' The Vibe" 2014  This has cans of Karhu (a Finnish beer) as product placement. Plus this dude is slanging his product from a shopping cart. All hail Lord Quas. I would love to see Madlib back in Seattle someday soon, maybe the Madvillainy 2 tour?

Ten Music Videos with Special Effects Part IV

1. FKA Twigs - "Two Weeks" 2014  *She has golden Oompa Loompas, already.

2. Def Dee x Alca - "Ultra Violet" 2014  *My favorite Def Dee song is still "Different Than The Next Block" off of his collaboration with La, Gravity.

3. Arcade Fire - "You Already Know" 2014  *This is some Harry Potter shit.

4. Mndsgn - "TXT (MSGS)" 2014  *Mndsgn is one of the newest Stones Throw artists, I posted his "Inedia" EP on ReignCity back in January and the video for "Hiking / Fif Dim" last December.

5. Rey Pila - "Alexander" 2014  *This video also has candles, street-walking, fur, mirrors, personal grooming, cats, and money.

6. Marian Hill - "Lovit" 2014  *Eyelids on eyelids would likely be terrifying in real life.

7. Atoms For Peace - "Before Your Very Eyes" 2013  *I wonder if this is what it feels like to be Thom Yorke.

8. Captain Murphy - "Duality" 2012 *On November 18 in Seattle, music lovers have been presented with a dilemma. Do you go see Flying Lotus (Captain Murphy) at The Neptune Theater or FKA Twigs at The Showbox?

*Original Video Deleted By Creator But This One Is Coo Too

9. FKA Twigs - "Tw-ache" 2014  *I don't know if he should be touching her there right now, she's got a tw-ache. That said, I will most likely see FKA Twigs over Flying Lotus (see dilemma above in #8).

10. Banoffee - "Got It" 2014  *The Australian artist Banoffee appeared earlier this year on Ten Music Videos with Musicians Sitting On The Job.

*** This is the fourth collection of Special Effects videos. The first, second, and third installments can be found right back there.
