1. Flying Lotus - "Ready Err Not" 2014  This one took me back to the video for Tool's "Sober" which appeared on Ten Music Videos Featuring Clay Or Puppets. Flying Lotus has obviously tapped into his superpower.




2. Kendrick Lamar - "Alright" 2015  This Kendrick and Obama photo is one of the best things I've ever seen.

3. Hawk House - "Chill Pill (Experiment 2)" 2014  I can't wait to feel the vibe of the UK Hip Hop Scene firsthand. I'm still trying to build this music bridge.




4. The Roots feat. Patty Crash "Never" 2014  This intro is kinda rough but mad props to The Roots for being consistently rad for 2+ decades.




5. Mndsgn - "Sheets" 2014  Another Stones Throw gem.

2. Del Tha Funkee Homosapien - "Catch A Bad One" 1993  *This is off of the No Need For Alarm album.

3. INXS - "Need You Tonight" 1987  *Michael Hutchence showed us that rodents can be fashion accessories and friends.

4. Radiohead - "There, There" 2003  *The rodents in this video get the award for Most Civilized Rodents, mostly because of their outfits.

5. Steve Miller Band - "Abracadabra" 1982  *This video has rad 80's special effects, rodents, fire juggling, masks, birds, and a bunch of magic tricks.

6. Head Like A Kite - "We're Always On The Wrong Side Of Sunrise" 2010 (SEATTLE MUSIC)  *This video could have also been on Ten Music Videos featuring Rotating Heads.

Nine Music Videos featuring Lazy Singers

*None of these artists are actually lazy, they or someone else is merely laying down in their music video.

1. Bruce Springsteen - "I'm On Fire" 1986  *This is an iconic Bruce video, the scene when he rolls out from under the car. Yeah.

2. St. Vincent - "Cheerleader" 2012  *I love her "Strange Mercy" song the most, but, this one is pretty good too. The video channels Gulliver's Travels.

3. Murs - "Bad Man" 2004  *Murs has made some pretty great music in the past, as lame as it sounds I stopped paying attention when his hair got like this.

That's not sexy.

4. Atoms For Peace - "Ingenue" 2013  *It's all Thom Yorke-y for sure.

5. Three Loco - "Neato" 2012  *This Andy Milonakis, Dirt Nasty, and Riff Raff video helps to show that there are truly many ways to live your life. It all seems very L.A., I'm from Seattle though so I'm not really sure what that means.

6. Ghostpoet - "Liiines" 2012  *This video has flying stuff like James Blake's "Limit To Your Love" video, cool.

7. Beyoncé feat. Sean Paul - "Baby Boy" 2003  *Beyoncé is the antithesis of lazy, but, she is laying down on the job.

8. The Roots feat. Erykah Badu - "You Got Me" 1999  *This is one of my favorite Roots songs for sure. These people are playing dead, which is not being lazy, just possum-like.

9. Hodgy Beats - "Alone" 2013  *Fortunately for us, Hodgy (22 years old) and his Odd Future friends are not lazy either. They have already accomplished more than most people have in their whole lives.

The Roots and Joanna Newsom

The original Joanna Newsom song is called "The Book Of Right On" (2004) is pretty good, but, there is hardly any bass involved. When there is no chance of synchronized group head nodding, I can't really get that into it.

In 2010, The Roots used the best part of Joanna Newsom's song and turned it into "Right On" as part of their How I Got Over album. I discovered this song through my new friend Joy who brought the light the greatness of this song. Thanks!

Five Music Videos featuring Red Curtains

1. Lovage - "Stroker Ace" 2001  *This song is from one of my favorite Dan The Automator projects called Nathaniel Merriweather presents Lovage: Music To Make Love To Your Old Lady By. I would buy Lovage brand sweetened condensed milk if I ever saw it (and it was real) for sure.

2. Violent Femmes - "American Music" 1991  *Violent Femmes phases are generally pretty embarrassing. Mine was very brief.

3. The Roots - "The Next Movement" 1999  *This album came out when I was living in Park City, Utah and I distinctly remember the living room in which I first heard it. It was/is that good.

4. The Fugees - "Killing Me Softly" 1996  *This song is amazing in all of its versions.

5. Wang Chung - "Dance Hall Days" 1984  *This song came on at work today and I lost all focus on work and could only think about how great this song is. All three of these guys are wearing monochromatic outfits with their sweaters tucked in. I didn't even remember that this was a thing. Shout out to the customer and the coworker who love this song as much as I do.

Four Music Videos featuring Rocks

1. Beach House - "Forever Still" 2013  *I love that they made a 27 minute video, I think it can serve to help the fans feel like they are able to get to know the musicians. The Beatles did a great job of this with the Help! movie in 1965 and Kanye West's Runaway in 2010. This video is not nearly as entertaining as its predecessors, but, the music is great. The best rocks are during the "Irene" song which starts around 19 minutes.

2. Salt 'N Pepa - "Let's Talk About Sex" 1991  *The ladies are posted up by some rocks on a beach talking about sex.

3. The Roots - "Concerto Of The Desperado" 1996  *One of my favorite Roots songs.

4. Frankie Stew and Harvey Gunn - "1994" 2013  (UK HIP HOP)  *I think this song is pretty great, especially since they look so young. The beat is amazing and the vinyl crackle mostly works. I've watched this video a lot trying to sort out how this song is good and bad at the same time. This is one of those guys who follow you on Twitter and then unfollow you after you follow them back. Tricky.

1. Radiohead - "Fake Plastic Trees" 1995  *The combination of the 18 years that have passed and the fact that they are riding in shopping carts makes the guys in Radiohead look like babies. This is the King of the shopping cart videos.




2. Grieves and Budo - "On The Rocks" 2011  *I love videos with a storyline.




3. The Electric feat. Yarah Bravo - "Beautiful" 2010  *Yarah Bravo is definitely cool and the song doesn't suck.




4. Bishop Nehru feat. Que Hampton - "Misruled Order" 2013  *Great video but gets disturbing around the 3 minute mark.




5. Redman - "Pick It Up" 1997  *Redman is hilarious. If you need proof watch his movie with Method Man and Lisa Turtle, How High.




6. Earl Sweatshirt feat. Tyler, The Creator - "Whoa" 2013  *They've worked hard for our attention. You have to work as hard as them if you want to be on their level.




7. Tyler, The Creator - "French" 2011  *Tyler and his Odd Future friends dry hump a shopping cart and do many other (not)surprising things.




8. Grieves and Budo - "Against The Bottom" 2011  *This is the poppiest Grieves song ever.




9. The Roots - "How I Got Over" 2009  *This song is pretty good, but, I haven't had one of those moments when I decide I love it yet.




10. TH3RDZ - "Go For Broke" 2013  *JFK hangs out with a shopping cart, Candidt works out, and Xperience hangs out on a rooftop.

This song is made with unreleased J Dilla (James Yancey) beats.



2. Verb T - "Where You Find Me" 2012  (UK HIP HOP)  *I love this beat; the bass is great and it has soul. I really don't know how to talk about beats, I just know if I like it.


3. New Order - "Temptation" 1982  *I'm pretty sure this is not the original video because the clothes and the cars look too modern. Of course, New Order is great.


4. J Rocc - "Stay Fresh" 2011  *Mayer Hawthorne filmed this while he, J Rocc, and Peanut Butter Wolf were on tour in Japan (or so the YouTube credit says).


5. Lootpack (Madlib) - "Crate Diggin'" 1999  *Oh man, I love this.


6. Jin - "Top 5 Dead Or Alive" 2005  *This is the only Jin song that I really like. It is hard to pick a top 5 emcees because it is hard to know how to judge. Is it personal preference, content of lyrics, or skill level? I always like Mos Def, Method Man, and Q-Tip. The rest of my top 5 is always changing by what I am overplaying at the time.


7. Primal Scream - "It's Alright, It's OK" 2013  *This is what a new Primal Scream song should sound like (as messed up as that sounds). I always loved their "Movin' On Up" song from 1991.


8. The Roots - "Silent Treatment" 1995  *Another solid Roots track.


9. The Foreign Exchange - "I Wanna Know" 2009  *This song by Phonte and Nicolay is way more R and B than I expected. It's aight.

2. Berlin - "Sex (I'm A)" 1982  *Warning, this video does contain a moving topless comic book lady and nude mannequins. This is the only music video I've seen that has a close-up of someone eating an oyster from a table with decidedly sexy food.

3. Cracker - "Low" 1994  *Remember this song? No, just remember?

4. Mos Def - "Umi Says" 1999  *This is from my favorite Mos Def album, Black On Both Sides.

5. M.E.D., Blu, Jimetta Rose, and Madlib - "Burgundy Whip" 2013  *It's a pretty good song, but, I don't think I'll star it on Spotify or anything.

6. Fliptrix - "Heart Full Of Love" 2013  *Fliptrix has churned out at least six videos of his own in 2013 already. I can tell he loves to make music, which is cool. I feel that Fliptrix is getting much closer to where he could be.

7. Twista - "Overnight Celebrity" 2004  *This is the only Twista song that I like.

8. Midnight Star - "No Parking On The Dance Floor" 1983  *Watch this video if in search of serious eighties visuals.

9. The Roots - "Star" 2004  *This is a very wholesome music video.

10. Signif - "Drifting" 2010  *OK so, I don't really like this song that much. I do like that she is a lady rapper who doesn't seem like a crazy person (you know who you are...or do you?). She's cool.

*It's hard for me not to sing the lyrics to this commercial when listening to this song.

3. Oingo Boingo - "Weird Science" 1985  *The Weird Science movie is cool too.

4. The Bangles - "Manic Monday" 1986  *Some of these clocks are floating.

5. Janet Jackson feat. Q-Tip and Joni Mitchell - "Got Til It's Gone" 1997  *This video also has a weird rodent looking animal around 0:20. I am definitely on Team Janet.

6. Fleetwood Mac - "Everywhere" 1987  *This music video is a period piece, it is from a time when horses delivered messages.

7. The Cure - "Lullaby" 1989  *Maybe he should get out of bed and go outside or something. I love this band, song, and video but really, he has been in bed so long that he is covered in spiderwebs.
