Ten Great YouTube Video Series

1. Anderson .Paak A N I M A L via Mass Appeal

"Today, Mass Appeal premieres Anderson .Paak’s new web series, A N I M A L. Curated by Ian Schwartzman and Adrian Miller, and shot by Micah Stell, the show is a quick-paced, jump cut-filled account of newfound fame, which mirrors the wonderfully turbulent life that Paak is adjusting to. “It’s been a crazy ride and I’m not really concerned with stopping any time soon,” says Paak. “This is what we’ve been working toward for a long a time. We’re ready, and I’m glad I can share this moment with new fans and people that want to get to know me.” The cast of characters ranges from Paak’s L.A. underground homies like Dumbfoundead and LO_DEF, global superstars like Dre and Kendrick, to his wife and son." - The YouTube credits

2. KINDA NEAT

"This is a podcast about music…kinda.  Hosted by Lee Shaner (better known as Intuition), a rapper, writer, photographer, curator, and producer haling from North Pole, Alaska and currently residing in Los Angeles.  Produced by Ben Shim, also known as DTBS, an audio engineer, producer, beat maker, and fellow Knocksteady ex-patriot.  The two previously hosted and produced over 70 podcasts on the now defunct “Knocksteady Live” show.  Kinda Neat is a means of getting to know more about their friends and fellow dream chasers, while introducing them to, or better informing, folks that share similar tastes in music." - Kinda Neat

In Crate Diggers, renowned artists, DJs and producers allow Fuse’s cameras to document personal vinyl collections that have frequently never before been seen by the public. Each episode becomes more than an exploration of a crate of albums, it becomes an exploration of the music that shaped the artists’ work and lives. In 2013, Crate Diggers was named an Honoree for Best Online Music Documentary by the WEBBY Awards." - FUSE

J Rocc's Vinyl Collection - 2012

5. Thursday Plantation - Larry Mizell Jr. + Propadata Films circa 2006

Playlist of all Ten Episodes from his pre-KEXP days. The Prince Paul interview is my favorite part.

6. 7 Slaps In The Sack w/ Carrick Wenke for MissCaseyCarter.com 2014-Present

I wish he'd work with more local artists but it's still a great series.

7. Coolout TV Interview with Treach and DJ Kay Gee of Naughty By Nature 2008

Georgio Brown and Coolout TV feature Gloria Medina w/ Naughty By Nature at the 92.5 House Party 2008 with Coolio in Seattle.

"I'm feeling the fire right now" (2:14) -says the woman standing next to Treach

8. Black Cab Sessions in London + New York

Ten Music Videos With Shadows Or Silhouettes

1. Neka + Kahlo - "Mayweather" 2015  Two of Portland's most interesting people (up there with Grape God of course). I booked them at  The Crocodile Back Bar on Sunday, July 26 for a show with Astro King Phoenix, Wes Guy, and Fountaine. It was amazing.

2. Dam Funk - "We Continue" 2015  STONES THROW I would love to go on a spacecruise with these dudes. Dam Funk coming through with another great message.

3. Oddisee - "Belong To The World" 2015  My team at ReignCity is bringing Oddisee and The Good Compny Band to The Crocodile on November 7. He is a cool ass dude.

4. Akua Naru - "The World Is Listening" (prod. by JR + Ph7) 2010  This reminds me of the Canary Sing video for "Freak Show" in the best way. These are some down ass chicks.

5. J'Von + Ackryte - "Tasia" 2013  J'Von is one of my favorite producers and also one of my favorite artists to work with. For a good time, follow his Soundcloud.

He's also an amazing visual artist. I fully hijacked this photo from his Facebook page.

6. Nu Era - "Cops" 2014  Andrew Savoie of Nu Era and myself host a monthly Local Hip Hop Showcase at The Crocodile Back Bar called Home Slice. Come through, the pizza is bomb and the people are even better.

7. Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams - "Get Lucky" 2013  These are some relevant mother-f***ers. This song made the world happy, what could be better than that?

8. Jaden Smith - "Scarface" 2015 Not that he needs it, but, I wholeheartedly cosign Jaden Smith. He's an intelligent 17 year old actor, musician, and fashion designer #props. I hope to see him at The Crocodile someday soon.

9. SBTRKT feat. Ezra Koenig - "New Dorp, New York" 2014  Haven't seen SBTRKT live yet, that day will be awesome. His self titled album released on Young Turks is a classic.

10. The Good Sin feat. Alisha Roney - "Eye 2 Eye" 2012 (Produced by Justo) (SEATTLE MUSIC)  Breaking stuff in reverse and road trips are totally awesome, they obviously know what's up.

*BONUS* It felt weird to leave out the legendary DJ Shadow, so I'll just leave this here.

DJ Shadow - "Live! In Tune And On Time" 2004

Ten More House Party Music Videos

1. GoldLink - "Sober Thoughts" 2015  This Kaytranada produced song is straight fire. My team at ReignCity got to curate a show with Red Bull Sound Select and we scored Goldlink with Porter Ray and Dave B at Barboza on August 5th; wicked.

2. Angus + Julia Stone - "A Heartbreak" 2014  This well lit and cray house party video is one of my most overplayed songs of all time.

3. Cheddar Dust - "Live Raw Dope Phat" 2013 (SEATTLE MUSIC) Wizdumb and Madshroom's (of Black Magic Noize/FFU) short-lived side project. I'd love to hear more of them as a duo.

4. Schoolboy Q - "Hell Of A Night" 2014  Seattle's own Lace Cadence and Parker Joe cameo this video reminiscent of "Earl" but with a more powerful drugshake.

5. Nite Jewel - "One Second Of Love" 2012  I found this on Grimes' Tumblr, it's perfectly Grime-y.

6. ScienZe + King I Divine - "Enjoy Tonight" 2012  Good ol' red cups. My favorite ScienZe project remains to be "Happiness Is."

7. Beastie Boys - "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)" 1986  This no-brainer may be the King Of House Party Videos.

8. Quincy Vidal - "Pillow" 2014  Can't decide if I like this Brooklyn artist, the party looks fun though.

9. Seinabo Sey - "Hard Time" 2014  The Swedes are killing it. I had to work the night of her recent show at the Showbox Sodo Lounge, low key tragedy. It would have been better at The Crocodile anyway.

10. Glenn - "Cannonblaster" 2015  (TACOMA MUSIC) I wish ILLFIGHTYOU played in Seattle more.

Ten Music Videos with Horses Part Deux

Here's a link to a YouTube playlist with 21 Horse Videos for your viewing pleasure.

 1. Intelligent Hoodlum - "The Posse (Shoot 'Em Up)" 1993  This is the first track on the Posse Soundtrack. I have a VHS tape with Intelligent Hoodlum performing this song Live on BET (and many other early 90's music videos), it's one of my most prized possessions.

2. Future Islands - "Seasons (Waiting On You)" 2014  This song rules. I can't wait to hear the Madlib/Future Islands dude (Samuel Herring) collaboration.

3. Laid Back - "White Horse" 1983  There isn't a horse in this video, but, I figure the name is good enough. The chick in this video is probably trying to cross her eyes because she can't believe how much the singer of Laid Back looks like a cat.

4. The Good Sin - "Promise Me" 2014 (with Additional Vox by Tay Sean)  (SEATTLE MUSIC) Another gem of the Seattle music scene, this city is rad.

5. Londonbeat - "I've Been Thinking About You" 1990  The version of this video that contains horses is "blocked in your country on copyright grounds." (Le Sigh) This is a rad song though so I'm leaving it here dammit.

6. Ra Scion and Vox Mod - "Fixed" 2014  (SEATTLE MUSIC) They have a ton of music video skill points.

7.  TĀLĀ - "Serbia" 2014 This chick is kind of a badass. FYI, she's from London, not Serbia.

8. Dark Time Sunshine feat. Child Actor - "Valiant" 2012  (SEATTLE MUSIC) A falcon and a horse for the win.

9. Falco - "Rock Me Amadeus" 1985  Eighties perfection.

10. M.I.A. - "Broader Than A Border" 2015 In a disturbing turn of events, M.I.A. has released her new video exclusively on Apple Music so I can't embed it. Bummer dude, but naturally since M.I.A. is so f***ing amazing, it's worth linking to.  "Broader Than A Border" via Apple Music

Ten Music Videos with Swords

I compiled all the Sword Music Videos I've found so far on YouTube playlist for you. #YouTubeNchill

1. Action Bronson feat. Chance The Rapper - "Baby Blue" 2015  Action Bronson is doing everything right; he's made a career out of doing the things he loves the most. Plus, Coming To America remake is killing it.

2. Grimes feat. Blood Diamonds - "Go" 2014  I don't normally think that wearing Adidas sandals is that styley, but, in this video it's perfect.

3. Hail Mary Mallon - "Garfield" 2011  I'm sure we've all had a campfire machete experience, I know I do.

4. Homeboy Sandman - "Refugee" 2014  This knife is swordlike enough for me. This video is a trip, literally.

5. Diamond D feat. Alchemist + Evidence - "Its Magic" 2014  They've found some pretty great stuff while digging in those crates.

6. Mobb Deep - "Peer Pressure" 1993  Crazy that this video was made 22 years ago.

The first time I ever sold merch was for Mobb Deep at The Crocodile on April 22, 2014. Here's 15 seconds of their performance, I love shows where everyone knows the words.

A post shared by Liz (@206liz) on

7. The Bar (Prometheus Brown + Bambu) - "Barkada" 2014  These guys will be at The Crocodile on July 21 for the Beatrock Music Five Year Anniversary Left Coast Tour with the whole crew.

Here's the flyer for the show.

8. Ghostface Killah feat. Kandace Springs - "Love Don't Live Here No More" 2015  I love videos with a storyline. Ghostface killed it with this one.

9. Astro King Phoenix - "Yarn" 2015  Video by Malcolm Procter AKA Wolf Delux. These two are some seriously high quality human beings.

10. Quadir Lateef - "The Quickening Arts" 2012  He's aight but I'd love to hear the instrumental.

Ten More Music Videos With Nature Scenes

1. J'Von + Ackryte - "Go" 2013 (SEATTLE MUSIC) J'Von is one of Seattle's greatest assets. He was this good 2 years ago and just keeps getting better. His latest album featuring Blu and Ackryte, Raw Beats, is available to purchase on vinyl on fatbeats.com.

2. Astro King Phoenix - "Earth Sky" 2014 (SEATTLE MUSIC)  Astro King Phoenix is a full time artist and great human being. He is part of the rising wave of Seattle art on its way out into the world. He's made a ton of great videos with Wolf Delux (live painter etc.), who've both performed a few times at The Crocodile Back Bar. Check out this epic flyer for the fifth show I ever booked made by Mad Max Wallace.

3. Benjamin Clementine - "Condolence" 2014  I want to go on this same walk, I'm gonna wear shoes though. I love this song even more because I can't listen to it on Soundcloud or Spotify, the mystery is still there.

4. Silver Jackson - "The Life I Live" 2012  I'm proud to say that my first show booked outside of The Crocodile is Silver Jackson of Homeskillet Fest with Kristi Lane Sinclair, Erik Blood, Tay Sean, and OCnotes on June 21 at Sunset Tavern.

5. Will Butler - "Anna" 2015  It's kinda Thom Yorke-y meets Future Islands.

6. Tinashe - "Bated Breath" 2015  I'm down with Tinashe but without the visuals, this song wouldn't do it for me. The video makes me want to go on more road trips, not like I needed a boost.

7. Manatee Commune - "Lovely" 2013  One of Bellingham's finest, he would pair nicely with James Blake.

8. Dex Amora, Zuke Saga, and J'Von - "Dex Dynamite Saga Pt. 1" 2013 (SEATTLE MUSIC)  I can't say enough good things about these guys. They've played at The Crocodile at least 5 times in the last six months because they make great music and are wonderful to be around.

9. Spooky Black - "DJ Khaled Is My Father" 2014  This kid is 16 years old, I can't wait to see how he progresses.

10. Marz Léon - "WHITELIONZ" 2015  Hodgy Beats (the Odd Future member in the video) don't give a fuck, he'll wear white and lay on the ground and stuff. Maybe he got the idea from SZA, who spread her white sweater on the ground in her video for "Babylon."

The original Ten Music Videos With Nature Scenes can be found here.

Ten Music Videos With The Whole Posse

1. Joey Bada$$ - "Big Dusty" 2014  The Pro Era team is still killin' it, Joey especially. The dude at  :06 is a Jarv Dee doppelganger.

Pause and see what I mean...

2. BADBADNOTGOOD feat. Leland Whitty - "UVM" 2012  It's hard to watch this without pausing for cereal.

3. Intelligent Hoodlum - "The Posse (Shoot Em Up)" 1993  This is the first track on the Posse Soundtrack. I have a VHS tape with Intelligent Hoodlum performing this song Live on BET (and many other early 90's music videos), it's one of my most prized possessions.

4. Seinabo Sey - "Younger" 2014  Swedes have the chillest parties. I'm looking forward to hearing and seeing what she does with the buzz she created with this song.

5. ILOVEMAKONNEN - "Tuesday" 2014  This song always makes me think of Stop Biting! Tuesdays at Lo-Fi.

6. Queen Latifah - "Just Another Day" 1993  It must have been quite a neighborhood spectacle when they rolled in the lift for the video shoot. It's an advanced posse shot.

Some Seattle artists covered this song last year...

Mic Flont, Gabriel Teodros, Ka.lil, + Jillthy - "Just Another Day" 2013  It's a pretty great cover and I love to see music celebrating our city. Eric Miller makes pretty great videos.

7. Lords Of The Underground - "Neva Faded" 1994  Backwards down the step twirl skills on lock. More Rappers Behind Fences from the Keepers Of The Funk album.

8. Dead Prez - "Hip Hop"2000  This is some classic shit right here. Dead Prez will be at Nectar Lounge on April 24 with Grayskul.

9. Kendrick Lamar - "i" 2014  It's a happy Kendrick song! I think it's great that he's mixing it up, that's what life is all about.

10. Homeboy Sandman - "Anything" 2014  He's such a charismatic dude that he doesn't even need a good beat to keep my attention.

Ten More Music Videos with Food

The full collection of Food Music Videos is ready for #YouTubeNchill 'n.

1. Superior - "My Whole World" 2015  Finding this song reminded me that spending hours on the internet looking for music is exactly the shit I love most. Superior has been making music since the 90s and is currently on the Dezi Belle label out of Berlin, Germany. Props to the kids in the video for their entrepreneurial spirit, they are going to take over the world.

2. Run The Jewels - "Blockbuster Night Part 1" 2014  El-P and Killer Mike are way better rappers than EMTs. Self promotion is also one of their great skills.

3. Freddie Gibbs + Madlib - "Harolds" 2014  I love Madlib's instrumentals. When the guns, violence, and bitches are optional, I'll always go without.

4. Mndsgn - "Frugality, Zen, + Homewards" 2014  A truly weird (AKA great) video from Stones Throw artist Mndsgn. He'll be at Barboza on Sunday, February 22.

5. Jamil Suleman + Spekulation - "Curry N'A Hour" 2015  Jamil Suleman teamed up with the Internet Buzz Master Spekulation for his song about the realest of real...making dinner. He'll be performing at the March Home Slice at The Crocodile Back Bar. Home Slice is a monthly showcase of local Hip Hop that I curate with Andrew Savoie of Nu Era.

Proud to say that Jamil was one of the teachers of my UW Hip Hop Class in Spring 2012 along with Third Andresen PhD and John Eklof. That was the class that made me realize what I should really be doing with my life. In the class we made an EP, a blog, and had an Album Release Party. Here's a link to a video filmed at the show. We made a bunch of music videos, here's the link to our YouTube page. This was the video that truly captured the experience You can play Where's Waldo for me in the video if you know what I look like.

6. Bocafloja - "Aire" 2013  It seems like this rapper from Mexico City knows what's up. He's spreading positive messages with his music, I love that shit.

7. Doomtree - "Final Boss" 2015  I assure you that no Doomtree members were harmed in the making of this video. They are in fine shape and looking forward to the Seattle stop of their All Hands Tour. My ReignCity team is hosting their March 9 show at Neumos with Hellfyre Club and Transit.

8. INXS - "Beautiful Girl" 1993  One of those 90s jams that never gets old to me. INXS had the cuts.

9. Keyboard Kid - "BasedExorcism" 2012 (SEATTLE MUSIC)  I love that he made a Twin Peaks inspired video. There's a handful of corn @ 2:16.

10. The Fat Boys - "All You Can Eat" 1985  From the epic 80s movie, Krush Groove. A must watch for any Hip Hop fan.

Here's the link to the original Ten Music Videos Featuring Food from January 2013. It has They Live, Illa J, Beach House, Mayer Hawthorne, Glass Candy, De La Soul, and more....

Ten Great Live Performance Videos Part III

1. Filthy Fingers United Cassette Release Party 2014  Incredibly proud to say that this was the first show I ever booked in The Crocodile Back Bar. Diogenes is to FFU as Peanut Butter Wolf is to Stones Throw. I would love to help the 50+ Filthy Fingers United members be able to quit their day jobs to make music. They release a monthly themed compilation that I post on the ReignCity website on the 20th of every month.

2. Madlib Makes A Beat w/ Sony's MVR - "LA To Tokyo" 2014  I haven't seen Madlib live since Neumos 2007, that's way too long. I have only great memories of the show, but according to this article from The Stranger it was shitty.

3. Ol Dirty Bastard On Yo! MTV RAPS 1995?  We miss you ODB.

4. FKA Twigs - "Hide" 2014  This is one of my favorite videos of all time. It's a bummer that the little kid had peed his pants for his YouTube debut.  They filmed the visuals in Aztec ruins, which is fucking awesome. The percussion getting a bit wonky is part of why it is so great. I also appreciate the KEXP version.

5. Homeboy Sandman + Paul White - "Wade In The Water" 2014  Homeboy Sandman is one of my favorite rappers. My ReignCity team got to host his January 23 Bellingham show with Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic, DJ Abilities, and Dark Time Sunshine for the Hail Mary Mallon Tour. It was one of the best days ever.

6. Grape God - "Time Travel Television" 2014  Very proud to say that I brought some of Portland's most interesting artists to The Crocodile Back Bar on February 8. Grape God brought Slick DeviousRenaissance Coalition, and Soopah Eype up with him. Super genius OCnotes performed as well. I love that they used live footage and made it into Time Travel Television.

7. Brandy, MC Lyte, Yo-Yo, and Queen Latifah Are Still Down - "Live at BET Hip Hop Awards 2014" These Queens are still amazing. The audience shots are pretty great too.

8. Daughter - "Youth" NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert 2013  The original is a great song, but Budo's Remix of the song is incredible.

9. Shabazz Palaces - "Live On KEXP" 2014 (SEATTLE MUSIC) The Black Constellation is light years ahead of the rest.

10. Fink - "Warm Shadow" 2013  I got to see them at their show at The Crocodile back in October. I had never heard their music before and it was probably one of the best shows I've ever seen. "Warm Shadow" was featured on Walking Dead.

Here's the link to the original Ten Incredible Live Performance Videos and here's the link to the second.

Ten Music Videos with Special Effects Part V

1. Kool A.D. feat. Himanshu - "Gwyneth Paltrow" 2012  I don't mind discovering songs two years too late, it's like finding a buried treasure. This definitely qualifies for a Mask compilation but real people doing amazing things is a special effect in my world. Most overplayed song of the day for many days in a row.

2. Stella - "Friends" 2015  This lady is Carlos Santana's daughter, it may be a lot of pressure to be the offspring of a legend. Plus, no one could write about you without mentioning your famous parent (as shown above). Fortunately, I'm the child of a plumbing contractor and a public health administrator so I don't have this problem. Pretty great song and video though, I'll have to see what she does next to determine my stance on Stella.

3. Gabriel Teodros and Soulchef feat. Sarah MK - "Black Love" 2014 (SEATTLE MUSIC) Gabriel Teodros on Wednesday, January 21 at The Crocodile Back Bar with Dex Amora, Shakiah, and EarDr.Umz The Metrognome.

4. Tool - "Stinkfist" 1996

5. Jehst x Strange U - "Dolph Lundgren" 2014  I would really love to see Jehst and other great UK Hip Hop artists in Seattle more often. I should probably just go there and soak it all in for a few months.

6. Perfume Genius - "Queens" 2014 (SEATTLE MUSIC)  This is an epic music video. The face changing is perfect, it also reminds me of Eight Music Videos with Changing Faces.

7. Betty Ford Boys - "Henny Lean" 2014  I almost didn't even watch this because the band and song names threw me off. I'm glad I did, this Tron business is pretty rad.

8. Maze Koroma + Mat Randol - "That Ain't Fair" 2014  (Portland)  Thank you to Grape God for telling me about the Renaissance Coalition website. I foresee field trips to Portland in my future. Hopefully these two will be some of the RenCo artists that Grape God is bringing with him to The Crocodile Back Bar on February 8.

9. Turquoise Jeep - "Comin Down Ya Chimney" 2014  These dudes are whoa. Definitely looking forward to their show March 21 at The Crocodile.

10. Lauryn Hill - "Ex-Factor" 1998  The special effect is that in most of this video she looks like she's in slow motion but she still manages to make it look like she's getting the words right; skillz.

Part One feat. Massive Attack, Groove Theory, Handsome Boy Modeling School +++ from 2/7/13

Part Two feat. Danny Brown, En Vogue, Bambu, Bonobo, MC Lyte +++ from 5/22/13

Part Three feat. Oddisee, Q-Tip, L'Orange, Kool + Kass, DJ Krush +++ from 11/20/13

Part Four feat. Captain Murphy, FKA Twigs, Def Dee, Banoffee, Mndsgn +++ from 8/27/14
