10 Car & Driver Music Videos Part IV

I learned a ton while making this screen shot photoshop collage; like when to let go and release something even if it's not my favorite thing I've ever made. They can't all be Outer Spacecruise

1. Danger Mouse feat. Run The Jewels + Big Boi - "Chase Me" 2017  This is a rad project for this squad to get into; not many rappers get to make something as high profile as this. They've all done a great job of working their asses off to get to the point where they get the major motion picture paychecks. #tryharderitworks

2. Zack Villere ft. J'Von - "Minivan" 2017  Taking minivans on sweet jumps is pretty cool Zack, I think you've finally tapped into coolness that you had in you this whole time...or maybe it's all that time you've been spending with J'Von rubbing off on you. Just kidding. For real though, I love seeing these two work together; check out the song after the video if you want to hear more.

3. Like - "Miss Me With That" 2016  I've already severely overplayed this song and I'm okay with that. "Miss Me With That" appeared on The New Hotness Vol. 1 back in January because my passion for the song couldn't wait seven months until I found more videos with cars and/or driving.

4. Tei Shi - "How Far" 2017  If you're reading this, you're having a much better day than Tei Shi (in this video anyway). For all things Tei Shi, check out this interview with Stereogum or this live performance of the song that first caught my attention, "Bassically." Shoutout to Tei Shi for being the Queen Of The Sausage Fest that is this list.

5. Dwynell Roland - "Devils" 2016  MINNEAPOLIS MUSIC  I posted this back in March on The New Hotness Vol. 4 after geeking out (in the best way) over seeing P.O.S. hit Dwynell with his car in this video. My second favorite Dwynell Roland song is "Eva Change" produced by the tour homie Last Word in case you were wondering.

6. Rejjie Snow - "All Around The World" 2015  This video works as a "What Not Do Do With Your Convertible" ad. For example, any asshole who smokes cigarettes in a car with a kid deserves to be pulled over, even if it is a convertible. He even has the kid lipsync weed lyrics, an interesting choice Mr. Snow. Another interesting choice is having Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis' daughter, Lily Rose Depp costar in the video. All cigarette shaming and name dropping aside, this song is dope.

7. The Raconteurs - "Steady As She Goes" 2006  They must have had a blast making this video; I kinda think that might be what life is all about. Shoutout to Jack White for being Jack White. He appeared on CBS recently in a story about his label, Third Man Records if you aren't familiar with his legacy.

8. illa J - "7 Mile" 2017  I love the effects in this video; they took the visuals to a whole other level. Bandcamp recently did a feature on illa J if you're interested in learning more.

9. Metasota - "No Money, No Problem" 2017  MINNEAPOLIS MUSIC  Yes you can make a music video with your friend while driving in their car; I sincerely wish that more underground artists would do this very thing.

10. J. Cole - "Everybody Dies" 2016  May I present a video of J. Cole watching for cops while rapping on top of a moving truck; it totally worked.

10 Black + White Music Videos Part 4

I'm teaching myself photoshop by making these screen shot photocollages so I hope no one sues me. I'm about 60 hours into the 10,000 I'll need to master it. I'll happily remove the visuals from the artist's work if they ask; only one screen shot is used from each video.

1. L'Orange + Jeremiah Jae - "Death Valley" 2015  L'Orange has been dropping hints that he may be moving to Seattle. We would really truly love that L'Orange.

As you will soon find out, this is the cut...

Listen to The Night Took Us In Like Family all the way through. You will not regret it.

2. Rhye - "Please" 2017  This song went directly to my Give Slow Jams A Chance playlist on both Spotify and YouTube; it's that good. If you've been paying as much attention as I have, you'll have noticed that Rhye always keeps it classy.

3. Angelo Mota - "Eve" ft. Topaz Jones 2017  This was a Pigeon + Planes gem; and I mean gem. It seems their tastes have gone a little commercial these days but I get it. We all gotta make a living somehow. I'm just glad they're still doing it. But really though how smooth is this and who is this magical woman who draws you into the video in the first two seconds? Eve?

4. Neill Von Tally Presents: Making The Beat Ep 1 ft. Mat Randol + Grape God 2015 PORTLAND MUSIC  Shout out to the EYRST crew once again for showing us how it's done. Daily reminder that #444 #GrapeGodDidItFirst

5.  Mizan - "Looking For" 2015  I'm still not sure exactly what I'm looking for or if I'll know it when I see it but I'll keep cruisin'. Nice to know Mizan is down to look for it with me.

6. Noo - "BNAG" 2016  TACOMA MUSIC  Noo is no stranger to my site. His work with 10.4 Rog and Muzzy Legault got my attention and I've been listening ever since. They're like an underground supersquad kicking ass in the shadows; I'll link "Without You" any chance I get. It has been removed from Soundcloud and Bandcamp for some sad reason; please prove me wrong.

7. Leon Bridges - "Coming Home" 2015  Leon Bridges is one of the classiest stars to shine their light on the music world lately. The 28 year old's timelessness will likely ensure his career will last for decades.

8. Princess Nokia - "Biohazard Butterfly" 2017  2017 is the year of Princess Nokia in my universe. She's been working her ass off and it shows. Her YouTube game is strong and I love that sh**.

9. A Tribe Called Quest - "Dis Generation" 2017  Can't say enough good things about Tribe. Joey, Earl, Kendrick, and Cole must have been stoked to be mentioned by the legend in this track. "Talk to Joey, Earl, Kendrick, and Cole, gatekeepers of flow; They are extensions of instinctual soul" - Q-Tip

10. Sims - "Badlands" 2017  Everything about More Than Ever and it's promo has been awesome. Sims' live show was on point as usual, the album is great, and the visuals have been on a whole other level. Your efforts are appreciated Sims! We can't wait to see what you do next.

13 Music Videos W/ Special Effects Part VIII

I made this using only screen shots from the videos on the list and photoshop. Please don't sue me, I'm one of those broke artist types and have made $0 from this website. I'll happily remove the art from your video if you don't want to be included.

1. Chromatics - "Shadow" 2017  PORTLAND MUSIC  While Chromatics may hail from Portland, they've done a great job of making sure that their art goes global. I'm sure you'll agree that Ruth Radelet has those spaceship eyes (see above).

2. Ivan Ave - "Circle" 2016 (Produced by Mndsgn)  I fuck with triangles, rectangles, hectagons, AND circles but Ivan Ave has shaped up his own opinion. >>> "I don't really fuck with triangles no more, I don't really fuck with rectangles either, I don't fuck with hectagons even. I'm done tryna work the angles, it's enough just working the circle." That said, I definitely fuck with this song.

3. Everything Is Recorded feat. Sampha - "Close But Not Quite" 2017  The art is this video really does it for me. Anyone else feel like Everything Is Recorded popped out of nowhere? Thank you to XL Recordings for showing us so much great music over the years. Sampha really fux with the special effects, see below. I get it, me too.

4. The Chemical Brothers feat. Beck - "Wide Open" 2016  Young Jedi, if you master special effects at a low budget, you'll be able to do cool shit like this later.

5. Homeboy Sandman - "Bamboo" 2017  The creative team behind this video nailed it. Sending virtual good jobs out to Schlonglord (lol), The Lurk, and Robert Adam Mayer.

6. James Blake feat. Bon Iver - "I Need A Forest Fire" 2016  Now is actually a great time to need a forest fire...

The Colour In Anything is a magical album for when you need to create a chill zone.

7. TOKiMONSTA feat. Yuna - "Don't Call Me" 2017  It kinda seems like these two are way more into circles than Ivan Ave who made a whole song about it. He actually used more ovals than circles; these two are legit circle fans. Ivan Ave may be a poser in the circle loving world. I write shit like that so that when I read this later, I'll laugh out loud.

8. Beth Ditto - "Fire" 2017  My favorite parts of this video are when she uses the whip to steal that guys corn dog and that one of the guys keeps his brass knuckles down his pants. Beth Ditto (also of The Gossip) was born to be a superstar.

9. Young Fathers - "I Heard" 2013  I'd never really listed to anything from the Anticon crew before but was prompted to check it out after serving Doseone at The Crocodile one night. The mirror effects in this video totally wicked and affordable for those who are thinking about progressing past their status as Soundcloud rapper (you may not know who you are).

10. La Luz - "You Disappear" 2015  SEATTLE MUSIC  There is a lot to love about La Luz; watch and find out for yourself.

11. Bjork - "notget" 2017  Bjork has been an inspiration to artists spanning all genres for decades but stays eternally young due to her deep seeded wonderful weirdness.

This is one of the best photos I've ever seen.

12. Sampha - "Blood On Me" 2016  You know you're winning at life when you get to drop a car from a tree in your music video. His latest album, Process, is waiting for you on your favorite music platform when you're ready.

13. Busta Rhymes + Janet Jackson - "What's It Gonna Be?!" 1998  This may be one of the most 90s videos ever. Busta as a silver band conductor for the win.

Street Art Universe... A YouTube Art Channel

Last December's solo trip to Europe was the first opportunity I've had to follow my own whims for three and a half weeks. I used this time to walk the streets of London, Barcelona, Lisbon, and Porto photographing and being inspired by all the art I encountered. I've been sharing these photos on Instagram, Flickr, and Reddit lately and the response has kinda blown my mind. I wanted to learn more about all things Street Art so I hit the free education website AKA YouTube and made this playlist. I'll be adding to this playlist (and all the rest) regularly so follow my YouTube channel if you feel so inspired.

YouTube is so much better than TV when used correctly; so far I've created YouTube Networks (playlists) titled Outer Space + UFO NetworkHistory Channel 2.0ArtTVNew HotnessInteresting PeopleAnimated Music Videos, and the infinite music video playlists that got me going on this whole thing. I made these playlists for myself so I only include stuff that I think is cool (see title of website).

Follow me on my two Instagram accounts to see some of the gems I've found so far.

The New Hotness Vol. 8

1. SZA - "Go Gina" 2017  Queen SZA is killing the game right now. I love that she "conquered self doubt and took Ctrl" because I'm definitely tryna do that shit too. I recently found out that SZA and I share the same last name so I must be genetically predisposed to take Ctrl.(?)

2. DoNormaal - "Third Daughter" 2017  SEATTLE MUSIC  I can't say enough good things about this Earth Goddess. Her artistic journey is already the stuff of legends and she's just getting going. Here's hoping we get to see some visuals from this album very soon.

3. Ravyn Lenae feat. Appleby - "Free Room" 2016  I found Ravyn Lenae via the Spotify algorithms a few weeks ago, shout out to technology. I tried googling Appleby for 5 minutes but came up empty so I can't link you to their work; learn from this musician friends.

4. Mali Music - "Gonna Be Alright" 2017  No relation to the Mali Music side project by Damon Albarn that I mentioned in the 10th post on this website back in 2009. My respect for Mr. Albarn and his art runs deep but this guy is dope too. If you're freaking out about life again, listen to this on repeat and everything will be alright.

5. Kendrick Lamar - "ELEMENT" 2017  For a few weeks after hearing this song for the first time, I couldn't stop Weird Al-ing the lyrics and making all kinds of weird shit look sexy. Its normal I think. Full disclosure, I do it for the gram sometimes but I've never been to Compton.

6. Sudan Archives - "Come Meh Way" 2017  STONES THROW  Stringed instruments in Hip Hop are a do. Sudan Archives is wearing it better than most.

7. VanJess feat. Masego - "Touch The Floor" 2017  It's almost too poppy sweet for me but the ladies got skillz and are more than worthy of your attention.

8. Leikeli47 - "Miss Me" 2017  Lesson Learned: Never pre-judge a music video/artist by their mask and gold teeth. The details in this video really get me; she's got her own swag sauce and everything.

9. Everything Is Recorded feat. Sampha - "Close But Not Quite" 2017  Due to the mind-blowingly awesome art in this video, I added it to the New Hotness YouTube Playlist AND the Special Effects Playlist (Better than Netflix, seriously). It felt like this XL Recordings artist just popped out of nowhere but they were hiding on the internet this whole time.

10. Jehst - "44th Floor" 2017  UK HIP HOP  One of my biggest regrets is not trying my hardest to get into the Bristol New Year's show this past year to see Jehst etc. when I was just an hour away. Regrets are bullshit so I'm gonna have to take care of that issue ASAP.

11. Jesse Boykins III - "B4 The Night Is Thru" 2012  I just discovered this five year old song but it has remained so damn fresh that it still qualifies for The New Hotness cuz I make the rules here.

12. Onry Ozzborn - "Black Phillip" 2017  SEATTLE MUSIC  Onry gave us a present on July 17...

13. Action Bronson - "Let Me Breathe" 2017  Pretty sure we're all tryna live like Action Bronson right now. I'm literally typing this now so that one day soon I'll get paid to travel around the world with dope producers and videographers eating the best food in the universe. Dude in the still looks like a super dehydrated Dog The Bounty Hunter.

14. Jon Bap - "Queen Chimera Pt.1) 2017  Word on the street is that this is Jon Bap's tribute to New Jack Swing (Shoutout to the Don Teddy Riley); I fux with that.

If you wanna re-Bap, here's his What Now album from 2016.

15. Myke Bogan feat. Blossom - "Take The Nite Off" 2017  EYRST/PORTLAND It warms my caffeinated heart to see male rappers collaborate with female artists; some of the best songs in the history of the (my) universe are duets. Example: Method Man & Mary J Blige - "You're All I Need To Get By" (Bad Boy Remix) (of course, duh)

16. Little Dragon - "Strobe Light" 2017  It's been awhile since Little Dragon made me feel the way it did that first hit I took years ago of "Feather" but I'll keep chasing the Swedish dragons for life to feed my music addiction.

17. Toro Y Moi - "Boo Boo (Album Stream)" 2017  An album stream video like this masterpiece would launch a Soundcloud artist into another dimension. Try harder, it works. For real though, I've been fucking with Toro Y Moi since I heard he was into collecting random pieces of wood.

13 Music Videos They "Put A Bird On It"

Mad props are due to Bird from Rhymesayers but this is about the kind of birds with feathers like this one I saw in Lisbon at the São Jorge Castle (they put some birds on it). Shoutout to the geniuses of Portlandia for the inspiration.

I took this photo in Lisbon, Portugal in December 2016

1. Prince - "When Doves Cry" 1984  To those running Prince's YouTube channel; thank you and I love you all for blessing us with Prince videos in our latest time of need. Please can we keep them and can we have some more?

2. 18+ - "Crow" 2014  This is the birdiest of them all by way of the crow sample.

3. Awkwafina - "Queef" 2013  Queen La-queefa is the queefiest of them all... you'll see what I mean. I just discovered Awkwafina yesterday and life's been way more hilarious.

4. Myke Bogan - "Mango Tree" 2017 EYRST/PORTLAND Myke Bogan, of PAC DIV with Like, has been working his ass off lately and it sounding pretty damn good.

5. Red Hot Chili Peppers - "The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie" 2011  I have nothing but love for RHCP and would be stoked to see them doing their thing on a rooftop or anywhere really.

6. Michael Jackson - "Leave Me Alone" 1987  This may possibly be one of the best music videos ever...which is good because it's one of the weakest pre-HIStory songs Michael left us with.

7. DJ Shadow feat. Run The Jewels - "Nobody Speak" 2016  This crew did so much more than just put a bird on this masterpiece of a music video. A Killer Mike quote from the YouTube credits:  "It's such a dope video. It's what I really wish Trump and Hillary would just do and get it over with...And even in that fight I think Hillary would win - and that's not an endorsement."

8. Santigold - "Banshee" 2016  This also appears on a YouTube playlist of Music Videos with Puppets alongside Quasimoto, DRAM, Tool, Madvillain, and a bunch of other artsy weirdos I love.

9. Hail Mary Mallon (Aesop Rock + Rob Sonic) - "Breakdance Beach" 2011  I'm definitely trying to hit up Breakdance Beach...which could be anywhere with the right crew.

10. Abstract Rude feat. Slug + Brother Ali - "The Solution" 2015  This reminds me of the Grieves and MC Type video for "My Girlfriend Beats Me" (it's a must watch) but this one has a Kitchen Aid Mixer cameo sooo.

11. Mount Kimbie feat. James Blake - "We Go Home Together" 2017  This song is from the upcoming Mount Kimbie album, Love What Survives, due out this September. Thanks for being you James Blake (le sigh). FYI, this is not a dance party cut but Give Slow Jams A Chance.

12. Berner + B Real with Snoop Dogg + Vital - "Faded" 2015  These enterprising stoners managed to make a lifelong career and millions of dollars off of their love of weed. There is a bird in this video, it happens quick. Smoke some weed and look for it while cringing at the weak chorus.

13. Wizdumb - "L.A.fternoon" 2011  SEATTLE HIP HOP  It warms my heart to watch music videos by artists currently residing in Seattle. I'm of the opinion that creating/finishing music videos will help propel musicians out of the realm of "local artists" and into the music industry.

10 Animated Music Videos Part VI

My Animated Music Videos YouTube playlist is up to 78 videos and counting...

1. Jay-Z - "The Story Of OJ" 2017  I can't mention this Jay-Z album without mentioning that Grape God did it first. That said, this song/video is awesome.

2. Sevdaliza - "That Other Girl" 2015  Sevdaliza stays weird in the very best way.

3. Chelou - "Halfway To Nowhere" 2016  Still can't decide if I love this song but since I've watched the video at least five times, it must be aight.

4. theMIND Feat. Mick Jenkins, Noname, Jesse Boykins III - "Animated Ambition" 2016  Noname for the win...

5. Mndsgn - "Alluptoyou" 2016  It's nearly impossible to be smoother than this.

6. King Reign - "Santa Romeo" 2017  This video was released posthumously by those who wanted to see this track get the love it deserves.

7. Jonwayne - "LIVE From The Fuck You" 2017  STONES THROW  Leave him alone, he's with his boys!

8. Dabbla feat. Graziella - "Psychoville" 2016  UK HIP HOP  "Thanks for being here. Theres lots of cool shit to see and free music to download and share so enjoy yourself, have a gander, buy some shit and help me continue to make music until it transmorph's into an actual job enabling me to escape the social grid and become a revolutionary pillar of the global community."
- Excerpt from Dabbla's Soundcloud bio

9. Gorillaz - "Sleeping Powder" 2017  The Gorillaz team is trying harder than most musicians out there and it's totally working.

Here's the Gorillaz episode of MTV Cribs for good measure.

10. Nick Hakim - "Roller Skates" 2017  This has also been added to the Roller Skating Music Videos YouTube playlist for obvious reasons.

13 Music Videos with Household Chores

I really can't tell you why I've compiled a list of music videos featuring household chores over the last few years...but I did and Sade is the Queen. This has the least Hip Hop of any list I've made since forever.

1. Sade - "Babyfather" 2010  Sade's been making doing the dishes (and everything else) look superfly since pre-2010.

2. SZA - "Drew Barrymore" 2017  SZA is doing laundry in this video...or at least looking fly in front of some dryers. "Go Gina" is my favorite track from SZA's latest; in case you were wondering.

3. Old Man Saxon - "The Perils" 2016  In the video, Old Man Saxon portrays (maybe he does live in his car, many artists do) a man living in his car. I tried it, it's not that cool in a Subaru. In my opinion (as is the rest of this website), this is one of the best songs on the list.

4. Jehst - "Nuke Proof Suit" 2005  UK HIP HOP  Jehst and his team truly went all out for this video. He released a new album in the last few weeks; you should probably check it out.

5. Sun Ho feat. Lady Saw - "Mr Bill" (Produced by Wyclef Jean) 2009  It's really too bad that this song is so lame because Sun Ho is killing the chore game.

6. Snakehips feat. Kaleem Taylor - "Forever (Pt. II)" 2015  You'd never catch me listening to this song but the video is awesome.

6. Grimes - "California" 2016  I'm an unofficial member of the Grimes fan club for life even if her music isn't doing it for me lately. She's taking care of the sweeping in the art studio herself; that's classy.

7. Reva DeVito - "Deeper" 2016  Catch Reva's Portland crew doing mannequin challenge type stuff then doing the dishes in this pro-cassette music video from last year.

8. Damian Marley - "Welcome To Jamrock" 2005  They gotta do laundry in Jamrock too.

9. EARTHGANG feat. J.I.D. - "Momma Told Me" 2016  The EARTHGANG Mom is cooking breakfast and doing the dishes while they rap and chill hard in slow motion.

10. Pomo - "How I Feel" 2015  I don't want to ruin the surprise but you should probably stick around to the end of the video to see who the ladies final visitor is.

11. Hilltop Hoods feat. Maverick Sabre - "Won't Let You Down" 2014  I love the video but think the song is pretty weak but since it came all the way from Southern Australia, I still feel lucky to have found it.

12. The Black Keys - "Weight Of Love" 2014  This song gets all Pink Floyd-y and it works for me.

13. Weezer - "Say It Ain't So" 1994  As Weezer does their thing, their squad goes about their business...doing laundry and shit. The realest.
