Twelve More Music Videos with Motorcycles

Here's the link to all the motorcycle videos on a YouTube playlist. #YouTubeNchill

1. OCnotes feat. BLV3$ - "How Are You My Friend?" 2017  SEATTLE MUSIC (sorta)  Otis shared some of his adventures around the world with us in the new video for "How Are You My Friend?" This video qualifies for more than one of my weird lists; public transportation, flowers, bicycles, slow motion, Seattle, and others that have yet to be published. He's all linked up with the Homeskillet Records these days, their artist roster is perfect.

2. Lykke Li - "Gunshot" 2014  Lykke Li is starting the glamorous zombie apocalypse; I'm in.

3. Action Bronson - "Easy Rider" 2014  I hereby declare Action Bronson to be King Of Motorcycle Music Videos.

4. Lizzo feat. Sophia Eris- "Batches + Cookies" 2013  Lizzo is a queen on this earth.

5. Das EFX - "Real Hip Hop" 1995  I love that raining sparks shit.

6. Blood Orange - "I'm Sorry We Lied" 2012  Blood Orange is a lifetime member of the Artsy Weirdo Squad.

7. The Bar (Prometheus Brown + Bambu) - "Coming (To America)" 2014  Overflowing with respect for all parties involved with this project.

8. Queen - "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" 1980  Grease-y in the best way.

9. U-God - "Dat's Gangsta" 1999  WuTang really is forever.

10. AlunaGeorge feat. Popcaan - "I'm In Control" 2016  I would never deny the fact that Aluna is in control; love this duo!

11. AZ - "The Come Up" 2005  Even the birds have AZ's back.

Here's a video of Action Bronson freestyling over "The Come Up" instrumental.

12. Abra - "Pull Up" 2016  You think she does her own stunts or is that special effects of her on the 4 wheeler (@ 2:40 and beyond)? This is one of those songs that's about nothing but I'm okay with it because the words are presented well.

Ten Great Short Film Music Videos

Here's a link to a YouTube playlist with 12 Short Film-style Music Videos.

1. Onry Ozzborn - "duofilm" 2016 (SEATTLE MUSIC) Congratulations to Onry on the successful Visual Album Debut at Nectar 2/13/16 for this project! It's wonderful to see people putting in huge efforts to do something unique. The following are his words on the video and the March 25 Fake Four release of "duo":

"DUO is an album I created of calculated duets with some good friends of mine (hence the album title), + duofilm is visual version of the album edited down to a 15min viewing.
Almost every guest off the album participated in duofilm such as Aesop Rock, Kimya Dawson, P.O.S, Nathan Quiroga of Iska Dhaaf, Terra Lopez of Sister Crayon, Rob Sonic, etc, bringing forth a very diverse sitting filled with variety + depth."

The Album Release party for "duo" is April 7 at Nectar Lounge with Homeboy Sandman, Blueprint, Divide The Poet, What Have May, Mr. Hill, and Special Surprise Guests (I'll give you one guess). Onry is straight killin it.

2. M.I.A. - "Born Free" 2010  M.I.A. is a Queen On This Earth because she dares to be her true authentic self and share it with all of us in such an unfiltered manner. She's definitely found a way to channel her inner Bowie. Props.

Do yourself a favor and go to the only place you can leave with everything you want, money being no object...the library. Her self-titled book is there waiting for you to check out for free.

3. Alexandre Francisco Diaphra - Blackbook Of The Beats 2015  This was another great international Okay Player find. I've included a small portion of the YouTube credits for some background info on the artist.

A multifaceted artist from Guinea-Bissau, based in Lisbon: rapper, poet, edutainer & beatmaker, creating music based on improvisation in which he blends his psychedelic, black music, afro ancestral influences and love for the non-quantized beats in the same way as with experimental jazz, mixed contemporary and urban styles. Last year Diaphra wons the 3rd place at the 1st International Poetry Slam in Rio de Janeiro (Flupp).

4. Thundercat - "Them Changes" 2015  Thundercat and the Brainfeeder crew managed to fit a whole story in their three and a half minute video for "Them Changes."

Thundercat is part of Flying Lotus' WOKE Supergroup with Shabazz Palaces; which may end up being one of the most exciting musical endeavors we've seen in awhile. Even Thundercat is stoked on it.

5. Florence + The Machine - "Queen Of Peace / Long And Last" 2015  She has quite the flair for drama doesn't she? I'm down with Florence, her creative vision and efforts are inspiring. I'm not in love with this song in the least but still think the project is coo. "Cosmic Love" still goes.

6. ASM (A State Of Mind) feat. DOOM as King Dumile - "Masking" 2015  It's been suggested via the artist's website that we  "Imagine a Quentin Tarantino movie set in ancient Greece and scored by Ennio Morricone and A Tribe Called Quest" with DOOM in it. I'm in. ASM is touring in Europe over the next few months. I hope he makes it to Seattle someday soon.

7. Grape God - "Open: A Flexistential Crisis" 2015 (PORTLAND MUSIC) During his October 19, 2015 performance at Home Slice in The Crocodile Back Bar (my monthly local Hip Hop showcase) he painted, percolated coffee, burned his own scent of candles, and was all around totally awesome. Ripley Snell and Skelli Skel were part of the time travel magic as well.

Grape God is one of the most unique and talented time travelers I've ever met. He recently released a one track jazz album and painting that he made on Valentine's Day. All hail Grape God. #444

8. ZHU X AlunaGeorge - "Automatic" 2015  I was blessed to see London artists, AlunaGeorge, at The Crocodile on October 18, 2015; it was whoa. My master plan includes immersing myself fully in UK music scene for a bit when the time is right. I'm still working on the music bridge that will get me there.

9. Flying Lotus - "FUCKKKYOU" 2016  Flying Lotus rightfully got mad props for this one...

*Official Selection Sundance 2016
*World Premiere Sundance Next Fest 2015
*Official Selection AFI Fest 2015
*Official Selection Fantastic Fest 2015

With the ability to travel in time, a lonely girl finds love and comfort by connecting with her past self. Eventually faced with rejection she struggles with her identity and gender, and as time folds onto itself only one of them can remain.

Director | Producer | Editor - Eddie Alcazar
Composer | Sound Design - Flying Lotus
Producer - Javier Lovato
Cinematography - Danny Hiele
Cast - Jesse Sullivan | Charles Baker

10. Mike Larry Draw - "Similar Contrast" 2015  This video stars the multi-talented Araless of Black Magic Noize, Vaughn illa, and Z3LLI from my hometown of Seattle. The video is so good that I didn't realize I wasn't into the music itself until I watched it again. Side note, Vaughn illa is not this evil in real life, not even a little bit.

Ten More Great Live Performance Videos

1. AlunaGeorge - "Attracting Flies (LIVE Billboard Studio Session)" 2013  *AlunaGeorge is playing Sasquatch, but, I would have loved to have seen them at The Crocodile.

2. Mary Jane Girls - "All Night Long" 1983  *This is from their 1983 Top Of The Pops performance, @1:45 we are treated to a between the legs of a male go-go dancer shot.

3. Quadron - "Favorite Star" 2013  *This song is great in regular and acoustic form.

4. Binkbeats - "The Healer" 2013 *This is a f**king awesome Madlib/Erykah Badu cover.

5. CHVRCHES - "Tightrope" 2014  *This is a Janelle Monae-approved cover of Janelle's breakout hit.

6. Glass Animals - "Love Lockdown" (Kanye West Cover) 2014  *I had never heard of Glass Animals when I saw this, they killed it.

7. Allen Stone - "Million" Live At The Cabin 2014  *He's got skillz.

8. The Flavr Blue - "Remedy" 2013  (SEATTLE MUSIC) *I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the trajectory of this band.

9. Binkbeats - "Beats Unraveled #6: J Dilla Live Mixtape" 2013  *This is one of the greatest things I've ever seen. I love that he made this one with four different Dilla songs, as it is hard to choose one great Dilla song.

10. Kingdom Crumbs - "A Freedom Song" (Live on KEXP) 2013  *This is my new favorite Tay Sean verse, he is still one of my favorite producers anywhere.

Four More Mask Music Videos

1. Midnight Davis - "In The Mood For Love" 2013  *This song has many moments of greatness.

2. Earl Sweatshirt feat. Vince Staples and Casey Veggies - "Hive" 2013  *Earl Sweatshirt amazes me.

3. Kate Bush - "Running Up That Hill" 1985  *I just heard this son for the first time recently, this is some ridiculously dramatic music. The video is so dated and modern dance-y that it makes you believe that Kate Bush may be the queen of 80's chick music.

Kate Bush's iconic status makes her relevant even today, the Chromatics cover of "Running Up That Hill" can be used as evidence of this.

4. AlunaGeorge - "Best Be Believing" 2013  *These people are in dance rehab, that's some Footloose shit.

Ten Music Videos featuring Special Effect Twins

Here's a YouTube playlist of ALL the Special Effect Twins I've found so far. #YouTubeNchill

1. Evidence (Produced by DJ Premier) - "You" 2011  *Evidence, Alchemist, and DJ Premier in the same studio, you know it's going to be good.

2. OCnotes feat. Cat of Thee Satisfaction - "On A Clear Day" 2011  *Not an actual video, but, OCnotes does have a special effect twin and the song is amazing.

3. Anna Lunoe and Flume - "I Met You" 2012  *Some keyboards were drowned in the making of this video. This song is only sort of cool.

4. AlunaGeorge - "You Know You Like It" 2011  *
This is the original version of this video and is a prime example of the special effect twins team.

5. Adian Coker - "Cream" 2013 (UK HIP HOP)  *I like this beat, it makes me forget that I'm not into scenes of destruction in my music videos. I found this on Pigeons and Planes.

6. Michael Jackson - "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" 1979  *Michael Jackson remains to be the King Of The Green Screen.

7. Azekel - "New Romance" 2014  *
I need to step my slip mat game up.

Drums Of Death (Not As Scary As It Sounds)

This song reminds me of Disclosure and AlunaGeorge's "White Noise". They both have that UK House-y with the lady singer thing going.

Drums Of Death feat. Yasmin - "True" 2013

AlunaGeorge

AlunaGeorge is a duo from London,  Aluna Francis and George Reid. They first caught my attention with "Your Drums, Your Love". The video had a wolf looking creature made of mirrors (See Ten Music Videos Featuring Mirrors here), which is awesome. The song isn't as great as the video.

Then I came across their 2013 collaboration with Disclosure, "White Noise". I put it in the list for Eight Music Videos featuring Fierce Solo Dancing. I don't often like songs this dance-y, but, her vocals add the soul that is often lacking in electronic dance music; as a result, the song is fabulous.

Next, I found "Attracting Flies" and creating a list of Ten Music Videos featuring Literary References was the only option. This video manages to modernize multiple classic fairy tales in a three and a half minute video. Rapunzel grows weed in her tower with her eccentric lady friends. Little Red Riding Hood wears a red American Apparel hoodie, a tight red dress, and white sneakers. The Princess (and the Pea) has one of her anti-depressants under one of her many mattresses. A tattooed Prince kisses Sleeping Beauty to wake her. It is fucking awesome.

Most recently, I found the freshly hipped second version of her video "You Know You Like It" (originally released in 2011). There is something about this beat keeps me listening. Watch for the girl who has "rad" written on her forehead with hair @ 0:32. The "rad" hair girl is only one of the casually dressed (yet eccentric, hip, and unique) people at the empty pool party. I like how when they are dancing in a group of five, they look like they are chilling out and dancing at the same time.

Thank you, once again, to the Pigeons and Planes website, on which I found this and many other of my new favorite artists. Check out AlunaGeorge's website here. Their new album, Body Music, will be released on July 29.

Ten Music Videos With Literary References

1. Tom Petty - "Don't Come Around Here No More" 1985 (Alice In Wonderland)  *This is one of the best music videos ever.

2. De La Soul feat. Redman - "Oooh" 2000 (The Wizard of Oz)  *Redman is the Wizard of Oooh.

3. Slick Rick - "Children's Story" 1988 (Alice in Wonderland statue)  *Classic.

4. Peaches - "Billionaire" 2010 (The Wizard of Oz)  *This one is a little dirty, so watch out for that.

5. OCnotes - "All I Really Had Was The Jazz" 2008 (The Three Little Pigs)  *This guy makes incredible music.

6. Snap - "Mary Had A Little Boy" 1990 (Mary Had A Little Lamb)  *I had this on cassette single. It looks like this video was just low-budget enough to not have a heater.

7. AlunaGeorge - "Attracting Flies" 2013  *Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, The Princess And The Pea, and Sleeping Beauty. This song is pretty great.

8. Jake Emlyn - "The Wonka Hath Landed" 2013  *This isn't really that cool, it is definitely an interesting oddity. Not only does it reference Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka character, it also referenced Anthony Burgess' A Clockwork Orange through the makeup the artist is wearing. I found this on the Pigeons and Planes blog.

9. Gensu Dean feat. David Banner - "Alice In Wonderland" 2012  *This video is so crazy that I had to include it. They definitely went all out for the video. I would never just listen to this song, it needs the video.

10. OCnotes - "Jungle Book Remix" 2008 (The Jungle Book)  *OCnotes is one of the Seattle music scene's greatest assets.

Eight Music Videos featuring Fierce Solo Dancing

1. MC Lyte - "Ice Cream Dream" 1992  *This is from the Mo' Money Soundtrack, I have this on cassette. I had no idea what this song was about in 1992.

2. The Black Keys - "Lonely Boy" 2011  *He is the new school iconic solo dancer.

3. Karyn White - "Secret Rendezvous" 1988  *I'm pretty sure she does the Roger Rabbit and the Running Man in this video starting @ 1:19.

4. Tears For Fears - "Mad World" 1983  *The guy dancing outside by himself is the inspiration for this category.

5. Mayer Hawthorne - "A Long Time" 2011  *1980s Detroit dance show footage pairs nicely with this song.

6. Disclosure feat. AlunaGeorge - "White Noise" 2013  *It's pretty dancey/dancy but I still like it.

7. Johnny Gill - "Rub You The Right Way" 1990  *I like the part @ 3:11 when he is dancing really hard and making eye contact with the camera.

8. Toro Y Moi - "Never Matter" 2013  *I'm not in love with this song by any means, but the video is pretty funny. I do feel like Chaz Bundick (Toro and Moi) would be a great person to hang out with. There is a great video interview with him on my 2011 Toro Y Moi post.

3. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Maps" 2003

4. Mr. Big - "To Be With You" 1991

7. Janet Jackson - "That's The Way Love Goes" 1993

8. Bjork - "Army Of Me" 1995
