14 Great Live Performance Videos Part V

The Live Performance Music Videos YouTube playlist has 75+ videos and still growing.

1. Jessie Reyez - "Figures (Live Acoustic)" 2017  Amazing what this woman can do with a guitar, her voice, and some imagination. I believe in you Jessie!

2. Jorja Smith - "Teenage Fantasy" 2017  When you're this good, all you need is a microphone. She just rocked that performance in a t-shirt like a boss.

3. Taylar Elizza Beth - "Live On KEXP" 2017  SEATTLE MUSIC  I've been a fan of Taylar since the first moment I heard her voice and she just keeps getting better. Seeing her at the Laser Dome with Sassy Black was truly epic. KEXP also interviewed Taylar for their Local Artist Spotlight back in June.

If you haven't heard her EP Fresh Cut Flowers yet; I've made it easy for you.

4. Gabriel Garzón-Montano - "Everything Is Everything" (Live Session Findspire) 2016  STONES THROW  He learned it from his Mama.

5. Mahalia - "Sober" 2017  I may have a problem, I can't seem to stop listening to this song. Could be way worse.

6. Fkj & Masogo - "Tadow" 2017  These two recorded this masterpiece at Red Bull Studios Paris.

7. Noo - "Without You" 2015  I'd really love to see Muzzy Legault pop in the screen to do her verse but she was far away in Canada... see below.

8. Muzzy Legault - "Cafe Nostalgica Ottowa" 2017  My intro to Montreal native Muzzy Legault was from the song above; I was an instant fan.

This jam I posted back on The New Hotness Vol. 7 clinched my fandom.

9. Tay Sean - "Live On KEXP" 2017  SEATTLE MUSIC  I was blessed to discover Tay Sean back in 2010 when he performed at Seattle Central Community College's Unity Fair as half of Helladope with Jarv Dee. Peep the link for a photo. The Helladope album I bought from them that day remains one of my favorite Seattle Hip Hop albums ever. I haven't been able to find it online but here's one of the tracks.

10. Masego - "Navajo" 2017  I've listened to the studio version of this song way too many times so I could figure out why I love it so much. Still haven't figured it out.

11. Kung Foo Grip - "Walk Alone 2 (Live On KEXP)" 2011  SEATTLE MUSIC  I loved these Caffe Vita Bean Room videos. Since they recorded this six years ago, they've linked up with the Cabin Games crew and released the EP below. We're all watching to see what they do next.

12. Shabazz Palaces - "Live On KEXP" 2017 SEATTLE MUSIC  Next level... once again.

13. Lizzo - "Live On KEXP" 2017  By being herself, Lizzo has already inspired thousands of young women to love themselves just as they are. #superheroshit

14. Dua Lipa - "I Would Rather Go Blind" 2017 (Etta James Cover)  Bold move to cover such a legend's music but she nailed it.

Here's Etta James doing it her damn self; rare to see performances like this these days.

The New Hotness Vol. 2

These have all been added to the New Hotness YouTube playlist...and I love them. #YouTubeNchill

1. L'Orange + Mr. Lif - "The Gentle End" 2017  I love this duo...a lot.

2.  Lizzo - "Scuse Me" 2017  Lizzo is Queen Supreme. Go see her live on this tour if possible, you will not regret it. Her show at The Crocodile couldn't have been more amazing.

3. Missy Elliott feat. Lamb - "I'm Better" 2017  Speechless but glad she never left.

4. Matt Martians feat. Syd + Steve Lacy - "Dent Jusay" 2017  This is from Matt Martian's (of The Internet) upcoming album, The Drum Chord Theory.

5. Lou Phelps feat. Kallitechnis - "Average" 2017 (Produced by Kaytranada)  Okay Player always comes through and Lou Phelps remains chillin'.

This happened at work one day last year...

6. L'Orange + Mr. Lif - "Strange Technology" 2016  This song made it to my Currently Overplaying list; was just pleasantly surprised to see there's a video. Even though it sounds like him, Aesop Rock is not the guest emcee on this song;  Akrobatik and Gonjasufi are the costars.

7. Swet Shop Boys - (Heems + Riz MC) - "Zayn Malik" 2017  So glad to have discovered this duo; may they safely and swiftly get through every border crossing they come across.

8. Jessie Reyez - "Shutter Island" 2017  This song/video has so many feels in the best way, be prepared. I love her.

9. Jamiroquai - "Automaton" 2017  At first listen, this song is a little cringeworthy at spots but the video is wicked. Plus, I really love the word "Automaton" because it reminds me of the movie Hugo and Dan The Automator. That said, I will likely never watch this video or listen to the song again.

10. Mayer Hawthorne - "Time For Love" 2017  Mayer Hawthorne is winning at life. #fuxwiththetux

11. Gavlyn + DJ Hoppa - "We On" 2017  She keeps getting better and better. Gavlyn first appeared on this site in 2013 on a compilation of Music Videos with Rooftop Scenes.

Twelve More Music Videos with Motorcycles

Here's the link to all the motorcycle videos on a YouTube playlist. #YouTubeNchill

1. OCnotes feat. BLV3$ - "How Are You My Friend?" 2017  SEATTLE MUSIC (sorta)  Otis shared some of his adventures around the world with us in the new video for "How Are You My Friend?" This video qualifies for more than one of my weird lists; public transportation, flowers, bicycles, slow motion, Seattle, and others that have yet to be published. He's all linked up with the Homeskillet Records these days, their artist roster is perfect.

2. Lykke Li - "Gunshot" 2014  Lykke Li is starting the glamorous zombie apocalypse; I'm in.

3. Action Bronson - "Easy Rider" 2014  I hereby declare Action Bronson to be King Of Motorcycle Music Videos.

8. Queen - "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" 1980  Grease-y in the best way.

9. U-God - "Dat's Gangsta" 1999  WuTang really is forever.

11. AZ - "The Come Up" 2005  Even the birds have AZ's back.

Here's a video of Action Bronson freestyling over "The Come Up" instrumental.

12. Abra - "Pull Up" 2016  You think she does her own stunts or is that special effects of her on the 4 wheeler (@ 2:40 and beyond)? This is one of those songs that's about nothing but I'm okay with it because the words are presented well.

Here's the link to the first 10 Motorcycle Music Videos.

Ten Artsy Weirdos You Should Know

All 10 artists ready to #YouTubeNchill in playlist form.

1.  Blossom  - "Black Magic Woman" 2016  (Prod. by Fountaine)  Another gem from Portland's EYRST crew; the label founded by NBA player and musician, Martell Webster. I love that they make videos like "Signing-Blossom" to help us get to know what they're all about. Blossom and the many other ladies that are coming out of their shells show more originality and innovation than most of the males that are dominating the industry (in their minds anyway).

2. SassyBlack - "New Boo" 2016  SEATTLE MUSIC  SassyBlack is one of my favorite people to follow on ALL social media because she has such a positive outlook on life AND she meets all kinds of interesting people. Formerly of THEESatisfaction, she's been efficiently grinding as a solo artist and even appeared on HBO's Vinyl as one of the Queens of R+B, Ruth Brown.

3. Lizzo - "Good As Hell" 2016  This is an awesome song with great visuals and a damn good message for EVERYONE; Lizzo's doing everything right (further proof in this NPR interview). The Minneapolis artist released her "Coconut Oil" EP on her new label, Atlantic Records, last October and is currently taking the show on the road (see you at The Crocodile on January 28).

4. Kari Faux - "Fantasy" 2016  This video gets a Lizzy Award (impetus of yet another idea) for Most Creative Music Video. I love how the visuals perfectly complement the song and show you what is likely a very raw look into the artist's soul. Kari Faux released her debut mixtape, Laugh Now, Die Later, in 2014 and moved from her hometown of Little Rock, AR to LA soon after. The release caught the attention of Pitchfork, and Childish Gambino which helped launch her into a world with stellar music video budgets.

5. Joyce Wrice - "Do You Love Me?" 2016 (Prod. by Mndsgn)  Joyce Wrice and Stone Throw's Mndsgn know the secret formula to authentically creating the eighties vibe. I learned the most about the artist from this LA Weekly article and will happily follow her on all her social media sites to see when I'll be able to see her live for the first time.

6. The Last Artful, Dodgr - "Squadron" 2016 PORTLAND MUSIC  The Last Artful, Dodgr has been grinding hard enough to appear on Sway's Universe. Thanks to the help of Portland's EYRST  crew and many years of steady grind, @TheLastArtful has captured the attention of those who can help multiply YouTube views and beyond.

7. DoNormaal - "Dime" 2016  (Prod. by Brakebill)  SEATTLE MUSIC  The rise of DoNormaal is a beautiful thing to witness and Seattle has been infinitely blessed by her presence. Those who've met Christy are instantly captivated by her spirit and become devoted fans from that moment on. Visuals for her work are coming our way at a steadier pace as she gears up to show us how far ahead of the game she truly is. At this pace, it's inevitable that DoNormaal will continue to be a driving force for positive change in this universe.

DoNormaal – Dime (prod. Brakebill) from Leena Joshi on Vimeo.

8. Guayaba - "Black Trash/White House" 2016  SEATTLE MUSIC  (Prod. by Luna God) Guayaba's Black Trash/White House EP is so rad that I don't even care that there aren't any music videos yet. Shoutout Guayaba for her continued evolution and to Luna God for being one of the most active producers in Seattle. I learned a lot about Guayaba from this writeup from Jetspace Magazine  and this animated interview with Seattle Weekly.

9.  Sa-Roc - "I Come In Peace" 2016  Sa-Roc is one of the latest additions to the Rhymesayers crew, which is a damn good crew to roll with. She's new to me but has an impressive thirteen albums under her belt already (according to the label's bio). Her recent Metamorpheus EP is her first release with the Rhymesayers team which I hope will get her added to the lineup for Soundset 2017.

10. Erykah Badu Performs For The New York Times + Answers Questions" 2016  The YouTube title needs some work but Badu is so far ahead of the rest of us with her self love, she already has a "gold floss" tooth chain. I felt the need to include her on this list because neither my Dad or my Stepmom have ever heard of her; Badu's music can fill the gaps in your soul so I'd hate for anyone (paying attention or not) to miss out on the healing.

Eight More Music Videos featuring Animals

1. Telemachus feat. Jehst - "The Sheltering Sky" 2012  *I just discovered this song via the Pigeons and Planes website. Telemachus is the name that London Hip Hop Producer Chemo uses for his solo projects. His website can be found here. Jehst can be found all over my blog and on the YNR Productions roster next to other interesting British artists.

2. Sleep Party People - "Heaven Is Above Us" (Song 2012/Video 2013)  *In this video, you will get to see a rabbit coming out of a belly button. The song itself isn't too exciting, which can be a great thing.

3. Apparat - "Arcadia" 2007  *This sounds all Thom Yorke-y.

4. Black Sheep - "Flavor Of The Month" 1991  *This video is amazing. I love that they are wearing snazzy suits while shepherding their flock of sheep and dancing girls.

5. Madonna - "Like A Virgin" 1984  *Madonna as Queen Of The World.

6. clipping.  feat. Cocc Pistol Cree - Work Work 2014  *They are some "off-kilter post-backpack" (Sub-Pop website) on Sub Pop.

7. A.F.Q.B. (A Few Quiet Beers = IllaMan + The Last Skeptik) - "The Beneathiverse" 2014  *I love finding new to me, interesting UK Hip Hop.

8. Lizzo - "Bus Passes And Happy Meals" 2014  *I would have loved to see their reaction to finding out that they scored a tiger for their music video.
