The New Hotness Vol. 6

The New Hotness YouTube playlist is better than television.

1. Kendrick Lamar - "Humble" 2017  This video has gotten fifty million plus views in eleven days, congratulations King Kendrick! Grey Poupon scene for the win.

2. Princess Nokia - "Mermaid Girl" 2017  Please go see Princess Nokia at The Crocodile on May 11 and tell me all about it. She's killing the game so hard right now.

3. A Tribe Called Quest - "Dis Generation" 2017  Waiting patiently for a "Mobius" video... "Conrad Tokyo" too. A Tribe Called Quest is now part of the Umbrella music video crew; so that's awesome.

4. Run The Jewels - "Legend Has It" 2017  I'd say these two are at the top of their game but I'm sure they'll surprise us with more awesomeness very soon. Watch the Def Jux documentary from 2002 to see what El-P was like fifteen years ago.

5. Brother Ali - "Own Light (What Hearts Are For) 2017  So many feels about this one. I love that he dedicated this to the late, great, Jonathan Moore; his decades of love and endless support for the Seattle (and beyond) Music Community will never be forgotten. I'll be selling merch for Brother Ali on his upcoming tour; I'll see you there.

6. Evidence - "Throw It All Away" 2017  I'm loving the first release from the upcoming Evidence album and I can't wait to hear the rest. I can really relate to all this rain.

7. Oshun - "Sango" 2017  Can't say enough good things about these two. The following is what they said about this song/video on their Facebook page:

Often times us women engage in romantic situations that we know aren't healthy, dreaming that we can be enough to make things better. In our newest release, the official music video for "Sango", we explore the destructive themes we witness so often in modern relationships. We go through a journey toward the most powerful Love, Self-Love, demanding to rise rather than fall 🌻💛🙌🏾

8. NxWorries (Anderson.Paak + Knxwledge) 2017  This video director, Calmatic, is also the genius behind the Karriem Riggins video you'll see below. I've gushed about Anderson.Paak enough in the last few months...

9. Toro Y Moi - "Omaha" 2017  I've added this to the upcoming list of music videos with bathtub scenes; check out part one here (Toro Y Moi is on that one too).

11 Roller Skating Music Videos

For a good time watch all the roller skating music videos on my YouTube playlist.

1. Gloria Gaynor - "I Will Survive" 1978  Watching this video (and early Beatles/Rolling Stones videos) inspired me to Google the history of music videos pre-MTV. According to The History Channel, the first music video was made in 1895 by Thomas Edison and his crew.

2. Chet Faker - "Gold" 2014 This video inspired me to buy $5 Goodwill roller skates that I'm afraid to use until I get health insurance. "Gold" is one of my favorite songs...ever.

3. Domo Genesis feat Anderson.Paak - "Dapper" 2016  Anderson.Paak has been one of my favorite artists since "Suede." Malibu was an instant timeless classic. Loved watching Dre react to hearing the music in the studio in the promo videos released to support the album.

4. De La Soul ft. Q-Tip and Vinia Mojica - "A Roller Skating Jam Named "Saturdays"" 1991 This video made me realize that I've been doing Saturdays all wrong. Shoutout to Prince Paul (producer of this song etc.) for helping to create so many of my favorite moments in music.

5. Ciara feat. Missy Elliott - "1, 2 Step" 2004  The roller skates don't arrive until the end of the video but Ciara and Missy are fierce the whole way through.

6. Perfume Genius - "Fool" 2014  I love that Perfume Genius is showing us the emo side of roller skating; not an easy feat because it usually promotes joy with moment of terror.

7. Le Couleur - "Femme" 2013  I've just added roller skating near the Eiffel Tower to my bucket list; I didn't have one before. I'll be wearing pants though.

8. Jungle - "Heat" 2013  Roller skate dancing at its finest.

9. Beyoncé - "Blow" 2014  The vibe in the room at a Beyonce roller skating party would be stellar.

10. Luscious Jackson - "Here" 1995  This video gets the award for Best Use Of Disco Balls.

11. Thunderpussy - "Welcome To The Disco" 2015  SEATTLE MUSIC  Thunderpussy is currently in position to take over the world...and I'll give them the award for Best Use Of Fred Wildlife Refuge.

Ten Music Videos with Turtlenecks

Turtleneck Music Video YouTube Playlist

1. Spooky Black - "Without You" (Produced by Greaf) 2014  Spooky Black is only 19 years old (insert shocked emoji). I much prefer to consume this song without the visuals because it feels like I'm too old to watch this video. His crew thestand4rd will be at this year's Soundset in Minneapolis and so will I; yessssss.

2. 3rd Bass - "The Gas Face" 1988  I could have made a whole Turtleneck Music Videos list with all MC Serch (list MVP) videos but that's too easy. MF DOOM as Zev Love X has a cameo in this video.

3. Monica - "Don't Take It Personal (Just One Of Dem Days)" 1995  A perfect example of a 90's R+B song complete with gigantic cell phone.

4. Blood Orange - "You're Not Good Enough" 2014  Hey, you're good enough.

5. Leonard Nimoy - "Ballad Of Bilbo Baggins" 1967  I really don't think it's possible to be more nerdy than this. That said, stay tuned for me starting to sell "Hobbits Unite!" buttons.

6. Total Giovanni - "Can't Control My Love" 2015  Melbourne electropop via Milan that doesn't suck. I'm definitely trying to smash an old TV in slow motion someday.

7. Jessie Ware - "Champagne Kisses" 2015  I much prefer her more upbeat tunes and collaborations to her slow jams. Specifically "If You're Never Gonna Move" and "Right Thing To Do" with Sampha. Jessie Ware is one of those rare people who can rock a yellow turtleneck; props.

8. Bell Biv DeVoe - "Poison" 1990  I know I'm not the only one who had dance routines to this timeless classic.

Here's a video from Bell Biv DeVoe's 2016 album Three Stripes.

9. Heems - "Damn Girl" 2015  This song really does it for me.

10. Goldlink feat. Ciscero - "Fall In Love" 2016  Goldlink is most definitely just getting going...
